Apparently, it's the simple things

Love this thread! My 4 year old is looking forward to her first trip next year. I just asked her what special thing she wanted to do and she said:
Walk around and look at all the colors of everything and go on five rides...no wait...SIX rides!!!

This makes me stop a minute. I've been planning like crazy for a trip with my 11 year old nephew. I've been trying to figure out what would would make the trip really special. I should just ask him...it may just be Country Bears and a swim in the pool which would have required no planning at all :)

From my 3 year old......
1. Buzz Lightyear SRS
2. Buzz Lightyear SRS
3. Meet Buzz Lightyear
4. Get a new Buzz toy
5. Buzz Lightyear SRS
6. Mickey ice cream.
7. Breakfast with Mickey (chef Mickey)

Done. And done kid.

So he likes Buzz? :)

I've said this on many a thread but my son's favorite part of the trip was the bridge at the WL.

5yo son: Both Buzz Lightyear rides AND the Nemo ride!

3yo son: Meet Ariel!

2yo daughter: Cinderella! Cinderella! (She spun around "yike Cinderella" while saying that)

So WHY am I feeling like I need to plan the heck out of this trip? hahaha. I can meet all 3 of their requests with 1 ADR and probably just 1 FP+! And we will have 10 days to fit it in, ha!

DD 3.5 (will be 4 when we go) hasn't been to WDW, but has been to DLP and watched the planning DVD enough to have an idea of what is there said:

Ride train
Meet Goofy
Go to BBB (which she has saved her own money to do)

So very HAPPY to see this thread! My advice for years to the parents of young ones, is the thing they look forward to most is being with their family! Picking up a rock, eating a gooey Mickey bar, jumping in the splash areas; their list is not dependent on FP, your carefully arranged plans, or anything but just a good time. There will be rides they enjoy, but be prepared to be surprised as you see WDW through a child's eyes.

When my boys were young, it was
Water Park
Country Bears
Pirates.
Food Rocks

My Grandsons could ride Living with the Land endlessly. Also the boat in Mexico. In Pirates. To DTD. In It's a Small World. In Norway. Sense a theme?:goodvibes

My son is 7 and has been multiple times, his list:

Goofy's Roller coaster
Monorail
Thunder Mountain and
Transit Which is down during our trip!

Here's my 6 year old niece's list from our last trip. I asked her on the plane trip down.

1. swim
2. ride Dumbo
3. that Yo Ho Yo Ho ride (too cute)
4. meet Ariel
5. have a Mickey waffle (she remembered these from the year before)
6. have a cupcake

Hey kid - DONE! She's the best!

My kids are older now (DS11 and DS13) and definitely have some rides they absolutely want to go on and I know we will.

But even more than the rides, they're looking forward to pin trading and playing the Sorcerer game at Magic Kingdom! If I let them, they'd spend all day just doing those things!

We have one vote for ToT after dark, one for dinner at Mama Melrose and another for the Trail's End buffet.

Love this thread. :)

Our kids favorites (ages 2,4,7 on our last trip):

- Slow Train (MK Train), Fast Train (Thunder Mountain), and the Up Train (Monorail).
- Water slide at the hotel (POFQ)
- Buzz Space Ranger Spin
- Soarin'
- Tea Cups
- Speedway cars

I love this thread! Unfortunately, my kids are grown now, but we are going down with DD, age 19, in June are her requests were:

Sunrise Safari (Ha ha they are more are expensive at that age)
Dinner at Whispering Canyon Café
Typhoon Lagoon
Cupcake and/or Mickey Bar

So some things change, and some things stay the same. :)

We're preparing for our upcoming trip for DS's 6th birthday the first week of June. He's been to WDW once, when he was 4. On the way to school this morning, I asked him what his top priorities were. I thought his list was enlightening amidst the FP+/Magic Band/Throwaway Room/BOG/Anna-and-Elsa hysteria that has been so pervasive lately.

1. Get a popsicle (not even a Mickey bar, just a popsicle!)
2. Dumbo
3. Imagination
4. Spaceship Earth
5. POTC
6. "The Pyramid" (the Mexico boat ride)
7. Country Bears Jamboree

And there you have it, from the mouth of a 5-year old. A short list of attractions that are mostly walk-ons nearly every day of the year, plus one popsicle. :) If he accomplishes those things in the six days we'll be in Orlando, he'll be happy. While we don't tend to go over the top with a bunch of add-on experiences, his list certainly made me stop to think about how the little things can be as, if not more, magical than many of the "must-do" experiences, especially for a young child.

Hmmm...I'm thinking you are going to have the most challenge with finding a popsicle, lol. Will he settle for a Mickey Ice Cream bar instead?

Yeah, kids are great that way....how many of us can relate to having a large pile of expensive gifts from Santa/family/friends/parents opened on Christmas Day and the kids are having fun throwing the wrapping paper scraps around and building a fort out of the boxes?

I predict that your son will have the time of his life!

Our first trip in '08 with my then 8, 5 and 3yo - a fabulous trip with grandparents, a fireworks cruise, pirate adventure, the works - because it was going to be our one and done......yeah right. ;)

Anyways after the trip and on the way home I ask my sweet 5yo DD, how did you like the trip??? Her response, "we'll we only went swimming twice." Lol

When my kids were around 6 and 4 (their 4th trip to WDW), on the last night of the trip we asked them, along with their cousins (also 6 and 4-their very first trip), what their favorite thing about the trip had been. All 4 of them answered "swimming". LOL. Then they started naming other things they loved, but right up there was swimming and staying at the "Toy Story Hotel" aka All Star Movies. It is indeed the simple things......

Our 1st trip is in 17 days :-). I asked DD6 what she is the most excited about she said ............

Asking Elsa to freeze something !!!!

We do have a FP+ for A&E but I hope Elsa has a answer for that question ... But I'm sure she's been asked it before ;-)
