Does anyone know if taking Apopka Road from Lake Buena Vista to Sand Lake Road quicker then taking I4 to the same spots?? I would imagine that I4 is quciker, but I heard traffic is really bad?? We will be taking it on a Saturday afternoon/evening???

Assume you're heading eastbound - Use I-4 - shouldn't be a problem at that time of day. Apopka-Vineland Rd. is a local road with traffic lights. Traffic can be bad at the Rt 535/I-4 interchange where it can routinely back up but will start to pcik up speed afterwards.

If we're in Disney and going to SandLake, we take Apopka all the time. We do find it much quicker, very few lights.

We also use Apopka-Vineland all the time, with few traffic lights and little traffic. We've taken it right up to Sand Lake or maybe even a bit further up and then cut across and directly into Universal parking garages. I actually find it easier than using I4.

A lot of people complain about traffic on I-4,and I'm not a local but I spend a decent amount of time in Orlando, but I've never had a problem on I-4 from the Universal area west towards Disney.Closer to Downtown I've been in some jams for sure!!But I also take Apopka Vineland rd. many times and there's never traffic and not that many red lights.

It also kind of depends on where you're going once you get to Sand Lake Road. If it's a point EAST of I-4 then you might as well take I-4. If it's one of the restaurants or shopping centers to the west of I-4, then Apopka-Vineland Road is a good option. Sand Lake Road begins at Apopka-Vineland Road so it's easy to access everthing that is there.

Another option is Palm Parkway which also begins at the junction of SR 535 and Apopka-Vineland Road in Lake Buena Vista. This runs right along the west side of I-4 all the way to Sand Lake Road and then on to Universal Studios. (The name changes to Turkey Lake Road north of Sand Lake Rd. Palm Parkway is the best route to take if you're going to that new Super Wal-Mart, the Post Office or Sand Lake Hospital.

I4 is definitely quicker provided some idiot hasn't turned their car upsidedown.

One way to find out is to call 511 on your cell, as you are leaving and follow the voice prompts to find current traffic info. Apopka Vineland or turkey lake Rd are 2 good alternate routes if I4 is messed up.

It would help if we knew what your destination was (or where your destination is located). Typically, traffic is heavy on I-4 on the weekends, but you don't get the really sluggish traffic like you do during weekday rush hour. It's heavy, but it moves. The only regular backups I see on the weekends are westbound just north of Sand Lake, around the Turnpike/Kirkman/Universal Blvd exits. For some reason, that area backs up between about 3-5pm every Saturday and Sunday (just when I'm trying to get home from work). But it usually doesn't extend as far south as Sand Lake Road.

You would also want to check the Internet to see if there are any sports or concert events that might cause traffic to be heavier. If you are trying to go up I-4 at the same time people are trying to get to a concert or ball game, it can be a little heavier than usual as well.

You are probably OK to take I-4, but if you can check traffic by phone or online before setting out, it's a good idea.
