I probably will not see it, but it has nothing to do with Mel Gibson's personal life. I will not see it because it will be very graphic. Mel Gibson's movies are very well done, but he goes for too much realism for me. I really don't want to watch people slaughtered. I realize that it is based on historical fact. So was Braveheart. Too much gore for me.

BTW, how many anti-semitic remarks does someone have to make before they're considered an anti-semite? I've been drunk plenty of times and I've never sexually harassed anyone or hurled the n-word around.

I don't have a good answer for that but I would think it would need to be more than one drunken remark. Everyone makes mistakes and personally I would need to see some sort of pattern before branding the man a racist.

Now if he made this type of statement in some type of public forum while sober, I might think different.

I can see that. And I can see how a drunken rant is simply distasteful rather than unforgivable, like a rational statement made at a press conference or something might be.

But I still think he's a creep. :)

I know nearly nothing about this movie... from the little I saw of the trailer I have no desire to see it. I could be wrong, but as of this moment I don't think I will.

I don't care who produces a movie, or even who directs it. I sometimes care about who acts in the movie (some actors really get on my nerves), but nothing else.

lol!!

I want to see it, so I will pay for Night at the Museum and go into Apocolypto. :rotfl2:

I'll definately go see it, DH has been talking about it since before the trailer was out. He's big on history. Loves watching that kind of stuff on tv all the time. It doesn't matter to me if Mel Gibson produced it or not, it just looks interesting.

I don't care, that's funny. :lmao:

It accomplishes a few things. I get to give my money twice to a movie I am sure I am gonna love. It also allows me to give money twice to a Jew -or at least half of a Jew. :rotfl2:

I know. I did it on purpose, to see who would put what they believe on record.

So are you insinuating that if people voted that they were interested in seeing this movie then they are stating that they are anti-semitic?

I'm not a big fan of sitting in the movie theater, so I don't go see many movies...did go to both "Pirates" though...had to see them on the big screen. For most other movies, I tend to get stiff & uncomfortable sititng in the theater, and then I get fidgety and I am sure I annoy the people around me.

However, if I let the actions of the Hollywood folks influence whether or not I would watch their movies, I wouldn't be watching any movies. There are few, if any, people out there who I would want to emulate in any way.

Plus, I am a nurse and have had some of the nicest folks in the world call me the most vile names when they were drunk, so I tend not to pay too much attention to the ramblings of someone who is drunk. Heck, if I did, I'd be working a corner somewhere, based on what I have been called. And I'd probably be making more money than I do as a nurse! ;)

What?? :confused3 On what record???? Are you a judge?

I can't wait to see it. I've had an interest in Mayan culture since I was 13. Plus I read that this may be his (Gibson) best performance as a director yet.

I will rent it when it comes out on DVD. I'm not a fan of Mel Gibson's but the movie looks interesting.

I might just see it because it looks fascinating. Also, I'm not expert on drunkenness but I've heard a few people I know say some pretty weird things when they had overdone it so I refuse to trash Mel Gibson based on one incident.

By the way, if anyone knew my background calling me an anti-Semite would be pretty ridiculous. I do believe in forgiving people and assuming the best I can.

I like the idea of paying for another movie and slipping into this one. I'd LOVE to see it, but, I have to vote with my dollars, so to speak, and send a message.

My two cents. I realize other posters have a different take on movies and their work as expressions of ideologies.

Nope, I won't see it in part because of Gibson's actions. I'm also relatively unimpressed with his actions as a director, but I'm mostly staying away because of his actions; as the auteur of this film, Gibson's ideologies are of central concern to me, in ways that actors' ideologies are not. He doesn't need the cultural capital that goes with another successful film, IMHO.

Further, I don't believe his actions are isolated to this one moment, both with regards to anti-Semitism and sexism, nor do I believe that they are excused by drunkenness.

Tempting as that is, keep in mind that everyone involved in the making of the film gets hurt not just already comfortably well-off Mel Gibson.

I don't know, it's a shame really.
