AP vs Park Hopper Resort Discount

My husband and I wanted to stay at a Deluxe hotel in the last week of Aug. however, the price was still too high for us, so we chose the Swan and Dolphin.

We were going to use the AP discount to get the room at 50%. However, I went down to the Disney Store and reviewed the costs before purchasing, and from my understanding only one of us needs to have an AP to get the discount. If so....my daughter will only be 3, a very small 3 I might add, and I am thinking she wont need a pass at all. However, that still leaves one adult pass. We are only staying 6 nights. So....what should I do? We want the deluxe room, but will the savings weigh out? We want to go to Blizzard Beach, and Disney Quest, therefore we need the Ultimate Hopper, or the Premium AP.

Thanks!:pinkbounc

You can get the 50% rate at the S/D using the disney club discount. Disney club costs $30 and you also get a small discount on park tix. Check it out.

Your daughter will be 3, so she will need a child's pass. It doesn't matter if she is a small or large 3.

Robin thanks for your reply however, my daughter being small was only a point I was making, not an exception. I still need some good advice from someone who actually has some. So please keep posting!!

Hi, we are going down in July. We also want to stay in a Deluxe. This is what we are doing. I made ressies for 2 rooms at the resorts we will be staying at. I am getting an AP just for me (so we can get the 30% off) then for the rest of the family(there are 5 of us) I will get them a 5 day park hopper. We are staying 12 days so it does pay for us to get the AP for the rooms discount. We don't plan on going to the parks all those days and we won't be going to any of the water parks. I think an AP is around $355. using the DC card. It pays for us because using the ap. we were able to save around $2000. on rooms only. You only need 1 ap to get the discount on the rooms. Get 1 ap for yourself and get regular tickets for the other(s). Good luck.

You only need one adult AP to get the discount. The rest of the family can then get hoppers or length of stays (the "Ultimate Park Hopper Pass" which might be the choice if you are going to do Disney Quest which is not included in the AP or other hoppers). With the AP you can also get a discount price on single days at DQ and BB. I think it will be worth it to get the AP for that 50% discount rate. However, the suggestion above on Disney Club is one you should consider as a better alternative. If S/D is offering, as mentioned, the same 50% discount to Disney Club members, then join that (about $40) rather than getting the AP. (I did not know about the DC discount there so I cannot verify and you should check). The DC card also gives you discounts on the park tickets you will buy (it also has many other discount benefits like on a National Car rental and 10% at any Disney Store). The pass rule is that anyone 3 or over must have one, thus you will need to purchase one for your child.

Note also, do not buy the Premium Annual Pass. That is way too much dollars for what you will be doing. In fact you can buy an AP and then single day tickets to DQ and BB and still spend much less than buying a PAP.

If you can get the same discount with the Disney Club, your best bet for tickets would either be a 5 day park hopper plus (provided you can limit your trips to the theme parks to 5 days only) or the Ulimited Park Hopper (it would be approximately $20 more than the 5 day park hopper plus). The plus to the plus is that it never expires, nor do the flex options. You would have to purchase the DisneyQuest tickets sepatetly, but Blizzard Beach is an option. The negative is you may want to spend more than 5 days at the theme parks. The plus to the Unlimited is everything is included. And, your best bet would be ordering it when you get there - you can then (if you choose) have the day of arrival or the last day taken off which would save money. The down side is that it expires at the end of the trip. Enjoy!

My DW was just told by a CRO that we could use a child's AP to book our room at the Poly. Saves some money over an adult AP.
