AP upgrade and activation timing

I upgraded my base ticket over the phone and everything seems fine on MDE.

My question is this: did my ticket "turn in to" my new AP? In other words, do I have to activate my AP prior to my first park entry or use of FP? I asked this of the CM on the phone, and she didn't give me a clear answer.

1. It is now an "AP certificate."
2. Yes. Always. An AP cannot be activated except by doing so in-person at WDW.
Go to any ticket booth or Guest Relations before heading to a park gate.
