AP room purchase question

A few quick questions, we currently hold an AP pass (me, DH and two DD). When the Nov AP discounts come up for purchase can we get two rooms? One would be for a non-AP holding family member. Would my husband and I need to split up to make this work?

Also to throw a wrench in the question...we are staying Nov 6-14, they are only staying 4 nights coming in on the back end. We also have the dining plan (so do they)

How does this work? Can it work?

P.S. - I understand there may not be a discount for my dates, and NO I am not trying to "cheat" they system.

Thanks for any information.

Yeah, that is getting a little tricky. You can only book one room per AP member, so he would have to book the second room in his name, and with three adults, there would be an extra fee. Since you have the dining plan, he will also have to be in your room at the beginning to get the meal credits. With paying the extra adult fee ($10/night?) I wonder if it would be just as easy for them to book under any general discount code.

Yeah, I thought it would be something like that. We could have done booked the two rooms and then slept in different rooms but with the dates being different, it really dones not work.

Sure it can work. Let's call you OP & DH, and your family members A & B.

OP & A share a room on the reservation. DH & B share a room on the reservation.

OP & A have credits for 6 days. All the credits are on both keys, so OP & A each have all of the credits. It doesn't matter whose key you use. OP & A use their credits for 4 days.

DH & B have credits for 4 days. DH & B use their credits for the 4 days.

Now A & B leave. DH "moves" into OP's room. OP still has all the remaining 2 days worth of credits on her KTTK card, and they both just use those credits. A could also leave the key for DH to use, which also contains all the credits.

No muss, no fuss.

Yes, you can book 2 rooms with your AP. (In fact, I think you can book up to 4.) We always do this when family comes to visit and we've never had a problem. (My DH and I are the only ones with APs.)

We have done this also. You can purchase 2 rooms w/ an AP discount.

However, everyone in the discounted rooms must be on the same "package." Which means that if you did dining plan, your guests would have to also. And they would need to purchase their park tickets separately because you aren't purchasing tickets.

Okay, I am trying to follow along.

Can I book my family (those with the AP tickets) for our 8 nights...and then book second family for 5 nights using all of their own names on the reservation? Or do I need to put an AP on their room reservation too?

I am fine with getting the tickets seperately. Currently we have a good discount but second family has nothing as we fall in the NOV blackout dates. And yes, I understand AP may do blackouts also for early Nov.

TIA.

Sumertime - I was recently told the same thing.

It wasn't that recent. It has been at least 2 years since AP holders could book up to 3 rooms. The current rule is one discounted room per adult AP holder.

I booked 2 rooms with my AP just last Sept. I was the only AP holder on the reservation.

Ahhh. I did not see that you weren't staying the same amount of time. If you were both staying for 8 nights or 5 nights, then you could book 2 rooms. Since you aren't the "package" would not be the same for both rooms (and it has to be when you book AP rates)

Sorry, but with you guys staying for different times, you won't be able to book 2 AP rooms.

But can't the OP book a split stay with the AP first for 1 room for 3 days, then 2 rooms for 5? (Or 2 rooms for 5 and then 1 for 3? Since AP rates don't need to book tickets anyway, what's the downside to that, other than maybe having to change rooms?

I don't see why they couldn't do that. But b/c of the "package" rules, I would call 2 separate times to make 2 separate reservations just to ensure that they're able to book 2 rooms w/ the AP. Making all 3 reservations at one time might be a red flag to the CM and they might tell you no.

Can I book all 8 night as an AP under my DH name. There would be DH, me, DD7, DD4 in one room for all 8 nights.

Then I (AP holder) book myself as the lead for room #2 for 5 nights. Since second family is only 3 people, we can have 3 adults and 1 child in room 2. I would just be listed in two different rooms. Do they care about that?

I understand if I am listed under two rooms that I would need to pay my dining plan money twice... but that is still cheaper than paying rack rates since we are in a blackout period.

No. They won't allow the same person to be lead on overlapping reservations.

Also, if there are 3 adults in a room, you have to pay an extra charge (I believe it's something like $15-25/night depending on the resort category).

ETA: OOPS! Just read that your DH would be lead on the first reservation. That would then be permitted. 2 APs, 2 rooms, no problem. I believe, though, in order to book an AP rate, the AP holder must be lead on the reservation. So if your DH doesn't have the AP, he can't be lead. And in any event, you have to pay the extra per night charge for 3 adults.

Yes if your DH has an AP, then I think you could do this, but I'm not sure if you can be listed in 2 different rooms. Because of the dining plan and the fact that your name will actually be listed on the reservation, I don't know.

But the other suggestion about booking a split stay should work for sure. Maybe try your idea and then if you can't do it, book a split stay for 8 and 3 nights.

I was told that they recently changed it and you must have at least one AP member per room.

Yes, and it's one Adult AP member as well. Use to be you could book up to 3 rooms with one AP. It changed a few years ago. (With a PIN you can still book up to 3 rooms so long as travelling together)

Again, this is not true. I booked 2 rooms on one AP last September. It seems that you can do it if the AP is the lead on the reservation & the other rooms are somehow tied to that AP.

It may also depend on the CM that you get.

When the AP rates came out a few weeks ago, I was able to change 2 rooms I had booked with a PIN to AP rates. I told the CM that DH & I had APs but DD & SIL who would be in 2nd room did not. He still gave me the AP rate for both rooms. Had to call yesterday to change a bounceback room we also booked. When talking to Guest Services ( Not the regular phone rep) about the AP reservations, she reinforced the only 1 room per passholder. She just changed my DH to the lead on the 2nd room & put SIL in my room. Still 2 adults in room. Same dining package for both rooms. So the plan is after we check in, DH & SIL will just change room keys. We are having most meals together so we'll just have the correct 2 meals taken off each room.

Could have gambled & waited to see if DD & DSIL were asked to show an AP, but I didn't want to risk it.

edit: we did & still do have 2 seperate reservation nos., but the reservations are "linked". Maybe thaat is why they are able to give AP rates even if the AP holder is in another room?
