AP Resort Benefits

Is it true that an AP holder only gets one resort discount? Is each individual Passholder entitled to a discount or is it a discount per group?

When using the AP room discounts, the discount is for the one room.
The AP holder must be booked in the room. Doesn't matter if the other people in the same room have APs or not. If it's a 25% discount, when at least one AP holder is booked in the room under the discount, the room rate will be 25% less than rack rate.

If five passholders are all booked in the same room, it'll be the same 25% off.


Each AP holder can get his/her own discounts on merch and restaurants and such, but only one discount prevails per room reservation. This is true during free dining and such as well - if you use any of the WDW promos on resort rooms, you can only use the one. The only difference with APs is that you don't have to book tickets with your room if you want to BUY the DDP - to get it free, you must do like everyone else and pay rack rate for the rooms and buy the minimum tickets (usually 2-day) for each person to get the free DDP.

I have gotten the discount at BLT, so yes.

Make sure you watch for dates for rates to be released. You will only get it if:
1. They have rooms still available for your dates
2. Only a % of rooms get the discount so even if room available the discount may not be offered.

I have been unsuccessful getting discount over thanksgiving but did once at Easter (40%). If you asked me for your best chance I would say January so keep your fingers crossed.

I am booked at VGF for January and I doubt I will get a discount but I will try anyways.

Thanks for all this great information. I noticed that the discount we got this year without the AP is better than the one the AP was offering. Is that common? We are looking to get an AP for next year but still trying to weigh out some of the benefits.

I don't know if "common" is the word I'd use - but it certainly happens.

AP discount is generally in line with, or maybe 5% better than, public discounts. They do tend to have different date ranges and blackouts, so this could result in an advantage to a public discount over an AP one depending on the exact dates in question.

If you're a DDP user, the free dining promos almost always trump the AP discount, except in cases where you are pricing a deluxe with a smaller family (3-4 people including kids).

I hold an AP not really for the resort room discounts (since I can book TA rates anyway) but more for the serenity of the soul that comes from knowing I can get into WDW parks any darn time I please (airline schedules and weather permitting) The discounts and such are just bonus.

I know, so I guess as soon as the ap rates are released I am going to have to jump on it. We have a 2 bedroom for BLT at the end of January. I am hoping for some sort of discount because the $6,000+ for 7 nights is really freaking me out! I know that they did not have any more AAA discounts for the 2 bedrooms when we are going.

We debated booking VGF but thought it would not be as kid friendly/fun for our 2 little ones. Hoops you enjoy VGF, it looks so lovely, hopefully we can stay there in the future .
