AP Reservation Questions

DH and I are still milling over whether or not to get him an AP. He's going for a short three day race weekend the first of April, we're going for 7 days in June, and with an AP would try to go for 4 days over our anniversary in Aug.

Questions:
1. Let's say that AP rates for our dates in June/July come out before he gets his AP. We can still call in and request rooms, correct? As long as we show AP when we check in?
2. Are there any stratagies for calling in for AP rates should AP rates be announced soon? Or any sites/threads that would help explain and key things to know on getting AP rates? We'd want to stay at AKL if a decent rate was offered.

1. Yes. You'll only need to show it a check in.

2. No real strategies for calling in for AP rates. If your dates are NOT flexible then you should call and book (or try to apply them to a current reservation) as soon as they are released. If you don't get the booking you are hoping at first for you can always check back (every day or so), sometimes rooms are added or reservations change.
