Our AP's expire 7/2. We got the letter in the mail that gives the opportunity to renew at the discounted rate. Question: Do we have to do this on or before the expiration date, or is there a grace period where you can renew and still get the discount?

Thanks

Yes, you have a 30 day grace period that you can still receive your discounted renewal rate. But keep in mind that if you renew within those 30 days, your official expiration date remains the same. For example, my pass expired May 28th, I renew June 14th, my expiration date is May 28th of 2007.

I don't see why you would hold off, unless it's for lack of funds....it's going to be the same expiration date as the original one - in other words, you bought and validated your annual pass on July 7, 2005, your annual pass is due for renewal July 7, 2006....so you wait the 30 day grace period out, get it renewed August 3, 2006, and your annual pass will expire on July 7, 2007!

OP here - thanking everyone for the replies.

Our issue is two-fold. 1) a lack of funds. I'm self-employed and I'm having trouble collecting from a client. AND 2) we haven't decided for sure if we're going to renew. We want to go on a non-Disney trip either this year or next year. We sometimes go to Disney AND add a few days at either the gulf coast or an Atlantic beach. But, we're considering a trip to Europe or Hawaii. That will cost so much that I'm not sure we can squeeze in two Disney trips on the new passes. Our rule is if we don't plan on going at least two times during the year of the pass, we don't get AP's. We've been going since our honeymoon in 1994. Didn't know about or couldn't afford AP's or multiple trips at first. Then, we started going more often and back when the room discounts were really good, we totally saw the benefit of AP's. We've had AP's four years out of all the years we've been going. So it's not an automatic thing for us every year.

I'm curious: how many people out there automatically renew every single year? Or, what criteria (like our two trip rule) do you use when deciding to renew?

I want to renew because I really think it's possible we'll get two trips out of it, even with the other trip. They might be shorter trips though. We got three out of the current one that expires 7/2. It seems the discounts are still out there. In the end it doesn't matter, funds are a big issue for us right now.
