ap renewal question

We have ap that expire in October. Do we need to renew them prior to expiration or can they still be renewed after expiration. I hate to do it before because our next trip is three months out. Also, we have regular ap but want to upgrade to the pap. Do we pay for a new pap or a renewal?

APs/PAPs can be renewed 30 days prior to expiration and up to 30 after expiration.

If you upgrade from an AP to a PAP you would pay the PAP renewal rate.

You have 30 days on either side of the expiration date to renew. I am not sure of the second answer but I would think you could renew and then upgrade to PAP. and again say it expires on 10/3/12 you can renew 9/3/12 thru 11/2/12.
That is my understanding.. you should get something in the mail before that 30day before window. Oh and no matter when you renew the expiration date will remain the same , so you gain nothing . If it expires 10/3/12 the new pass regardless of when you renew expires 10/3/13.
