AP Renewal Question

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I can't find the answer, so am coming here looking for some help.

My AP expired on 9-19, and I just got off the phone to try to renew them (we are heading down on 10-22). The CM on the phone was unable to process my renewal for whatever reason (I think she was 'in training' cause the person who she wanted to ask a question was not available), so she told me I should just go to the ticket booth upon our arrival and they could process our AP's there...since it will be 2 days after the 30 day grace period, she said she would note in the computer on our records that I had called today and tried to renew but she could not process the request.

So, my question to all of you is, should I wait and call back and speak to another rep or just go with what I was told. I was hoping to not only have them already renewed but also wanted to order our WOC picnics at the discounted price. What would you all do??

Is the renewal savings worth loosing a month on your AP? Your renewal would have the September expiration date again. A NEW one would have an October expiration.

This!!!! You'll lose a month if you renew the old within the grace period.

I was going to post the same as above. Just get a new one. Or better yet get a 3-day park hopper use the early enterance then upgrade. Unless are staying on site then you already get MM.

I like this idea. You can have a MM and then upgrade to an AP.

I am only 2 weeks past my original expiration date, and am in the 30 day window to renew. For me, $40 is a lot to have to pay out when I am actually within my 'discount' time, and we have a trip planned for this month. I guess my question should have been phrased 'would you call back and speak to another CM while trying to renew my AP'. Sorry for the confusion...

Probably not. The dilemma I see is ordering WoC picnics. If it was the first day of your visit you could try to buy them in DCA, some risk they will be sold out. If a later day it will only take internet access to order them after obtaining you AP.

I would myself prefer to get a 3day PH use the MM and upgrade the PH to another AP. Because saving $20 is not worth missing a month you won't get back, which could be valued at almost $32 for a delux AP.

Because they noted on your record that you tried to renew. It's possible they will want you to renew at the booth, offering $20 off. I would refuse, and just upgrade PH to the AP.

Deluxe AP works out to be $31.58 per month. The renewal discount is $20. So you are paying $11.58+ for a mOnth you can't use. It's not much, but considering you are trying to get exception because you will actually be outside of the 30 day period it seems like a bigger hassle than it's worth.

I see you're in NorCal, so I'm guessing you don't go to Disneyland every weekend or every month. If those $40 are that important to you AND you know for sure you're not going to want to go to Disneyland for at least 31 days after the expiration of your passes next year, then go ahead and call back and see if you can get the passes renewed by phone. Better yet, check online first and see if you can renew the passes and get the discount without ever having to call and talk to a person. If not, then call.

If there's a likelihood that you will want to go back to DL within that first month after your passes would expire next year if you renewed them with their current date or if fighting for your $40 is not the way you want to start out your vacation, then I say just wait until you get there and follow one of the PPs recommendations. The ticket booth CMs are hit and miss on their training and awareness as well, so note or no note, there's no guarantee you're going to get an exception and renewal discount when attempting this in person after the standard grace period has passed.

Have they changed something recently? In the past, you had to renew within 30 days PRIOR to the expiration to get the discount. After the pass expired, by even a day, you lost the discount. At least that was how it was last year.... (From Disneyland's AP website: "Premium and Deluxe Passholders, save $20 when you renew before your Passport expires!")

Why don't you try renewing online?

Okay I'm not crazy. I was thinking the same thing, but since we never got a renewal or actually renewed our APs I wasn't sure. I know the 30 day after rule is valid at WDW.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about this either. We only renewed once, years ago, and it said we had to renew by our expiration date to get the discount. We've let our passes lapse every time since, so since I didn't know if something had changed I was just going by the OP's assertions. Maybe that's the problem with the OP's attempted renewal.

So I ended up calling back and spoke to a CM who was able to renew my passes over the phone. I think the CM I spoke to yesterday was 'in training' because she had to 'ask someone' about renewing the passes over the phone.

Anyhoo, I got the renewal notification prior to my expiration date and totally forgot to renew before we went on vacation. So, once I got home I tried to renew online but the computer wouldn't let me. I think DL is upgrading their system or something since the new AP's don't have pix on them and have the photopass bar right on your AP instead of having to get a card from the photographer. According to the paperwork I received in the mail you do have 30 days after your date of expiration in which to renew your pass. On day 31 you will be given a new expiration date and thus are not eligible for the $20 renewal discount.

My thing was I could forsee a big ring-dang-doo when I showed up at the ticket booth on the 22nd with all my written info, date called, CM who I spoke with, etc and having them tell me that I was ineligible for the renewal discount even tho it was supposedly entered into the computer. Funny when I called today, nothing was mentioned that I had called the day before and that I would be going to the park on the 22nd, so I think it's a good thing I called back and spoke to another CM. All I wanted to do was renew my pass before I got down there, ie. pay in full and not have to use my fun money for our passes. Now they're paid for, and all I have to do is pick them up on arrival.

So, I guess if your gut tells you to call back and get another CM then go with it.
