If my reservation starts on the last day of a published AP discount period, do I receive the AP discount for the length of my reservation, or just for the first night?

Thanks for your help.

It is my understanding that the rate prevailing on the day you ceeck in is the rate you pay. I recently made a ressie to check in 8/24 and was told I needed to reserve arriving 8/23 whether or not I would be arriving on the 23rd or my rate would be the higher one going into effect on 8/24. I have since had to cancel due to surgery but that is what I was told by CRO when booking.

I'm hoping it does. I am planning Oct 1 to 6, I picked Oct 1 on purpose because it's the last day of value season. Waiting for AP rates! When I did an online reservation, the price they gave me was the value season rate x 5, even though only 1 day is in value season.

My experience has been that the AP rate applies to individual nights only. If you have a 3 day stay and the AP rate is not available for the second day, the only way to get it is to split your reservation into three pieces, the AP rate for the first and third and the previously reserved rate for the second.

This will also break the continuity if your stay goes past the end of value season. Pieces of your stay that begin in the next season will be at the next season's regular rate or AP rate.

Its my understanding that you get the rate of the first day. It can work for you or against you. I am going in the end of August. My vacation dates go through the AP dates but I am getting the same rate for every night.:smooth:

I have checked in on the last day of an AP rate and the rate has not changed throughout my stay. However, if you check in BEFORE the AP rate begins you do need two reservations, one for the days before and if you want the AP rate a new one beginning the day the rate starts.

The following from Mousesavers.com:

"If your stay STARTS in a particular season, but runs into the next season, your room rate will be based on the season in effect when you check in. For instance, if you check in to your hotel for a one week stay on February 14 (Value Season), even though Peak
Season starts on February 15 you will be charged for the entire stay at the Value Season rates."

"Keep in mind that this can work against you if, for instance, you check in during Peak Season and the rate drops to Regular Season during your stay. If you want to avoid paying the higher rate for your entire stay, you can make two reservations and split your stay when the season changes. You will have to check in and check out on paper, settle up any charges to your room and get new keys. There is a remote possibility you may have to change rooms. But this may be worth it if you save $50 a night! If you do this, it's a good idea to call the front desk at the resort five days prior to arrival and point out that you have a continuing reservation and would like to stay in the same room. This usually works. Be aware that when the season changes, there can be a long line at check-in with guests taking advantage of the lower rate. Either do the check-out/check-back-in process early, before you go to the parks, or call the front desk and ask if you can do it later."

Thanks for the info, folks!

It is clear, and proven, that the prevailing rate for any reservation will be based upon the rate incurred for the first day, regardless of if it is the last day of any particular season...therefore value rates can be had between Christmas and New Years as long as you check in on the 19th this year, and you can pay holiday rates all January long if you check in on New Year’s Eve.

The question remains, and I can probably get it from CRO, if I check in on the last night of a published AP rate, does the AP rate apply for the full length of my stay?

Peace,
