Hey gang. Since Disney has done away with the park hopper plus tix, we are looking at AP's for the first time. I've got a few questions for you all.

When you renew your pass, does it activate based on when you first purchased the original ticket, or do you activate when you go. If I buy a pass now, and go next week and then this week next year, and then renew our ticket and dont go until July, is it good for the year from July?

About how far out do the AP hotel discounts usually pop up?

If you buy your first AP on July 1st, it will expire at the end of July 1st the following year. If you renew, you will still have this same "use year," despite when you actually activate the renewal.

AP discounts usually are released 1-6 months ahead of time. They are not always available though, and they are limited to a certain number of rooms.

Depending on how long between trips, you may be better off buying a new AP instead of renewing. For example, we went May 2 to 8 last year, AP expired May 10, then we didn't go until December. I bought a new AP in December rather than renewing in May so that it would be good until this December. If I would have renewed, it would have expired May 10, 2005.

Just want to make sure you realize you can still get the equivalent of a "Park Hopper Plus", it just happens to have a new name. You can buy the new Magic Your Way pass for as many days as you need, add the non-expiration feature, the Park Hopping feature and the Plus feature. Same ticket.

For shorter durations (anything 4-5 days or less), you'll likely pay more than the old hopper passes cost for the same number of days. But if you buy the 7 or 10 day MYW pass, you'll probably pay less than you would have for the same number of days on a hopper.

If you buy the ticket, not the certificate (which is what you will get if you buy them ahead of time from Disney's online website or with Disney over the phone) then they will expire one year from the day you purchase them.

However, and this is what I suggest, if you want to buy, but don't want to use them until a later date, purchase the certificate. They will not start until the day you actually activate them at a ticket booth or Guest Relations before going into your 1st park. That way you aren't loosing anything. And they will expire one year from the date you activate them. As you keep renewing from year to year, you will maintain the same month and day as your expiration date.

If you don't want to use your AP until the following July, then don't renew it, just buy it brand new when you want to use it the next year

Usually about a couple of months ahead of time. You will receive your Mickey Monitor letting you know of upcoming events. If you don't receive your Mickey Monitor there is a number on the back of the ticket holder you will be given that you can call. Also, as an AP holder, you will be able to access the Annual Passholder section on the official website. Pretty cool, huh? :cool1:
