Hi, so we are considering getting annual passes but not until fall of 2020. However I went to look at prices today and was wondering, since the prices seem to continuously get higher and higher, would it be smart to buy the passes now and just wait to activate them, to lock in these prices? Is there a specific window of time to activate the passes, and is this a common thing that people do? Also, what time of year do the AP prices typically get raised?

One more question is, we are 4 people, so which type of passes would you recommend? We are FL residents but probably wouldn't go above gold. Are there any significant benefits to gold over silver besides the photos and less blackout dates? I head there are certain events only gold and above get to go to. We were thinking about having one person get gold for the photos and the rest get silver. There is also the select pass below silver but that looks to have too many blackout dates probably.

I think you can get the pass not and wait to activate it until 2020 ( I know you can wait a few months)

the AP price can go up at any time just like park ticket do

they have VIPass holder events ( I think they have had 3 different ones in sets of 3 ( so for this one there is one on April 28, May 18 and then another one in June) you have to sign up in advance for this and all be gold or higher ( I would not get the gold just for this as you might not get in might not be at Disney.

as to what pass when do you think you will go my parents got weekday select since going in the middle of summer or on weekend was not that big of deal ( they are retired) if you have kids then you might have to go in the summer or on weekends

Yep. I recently purchased one for May 2020 trip and it gives me a 2030 expiration!
