AP Questions

I'm debating getting an AP. We had one in the mid 90's, but we've not had one since. Anyway, I have a couple questions.

1) Do AP holders get discounts at the resorts? If so, what happens if I've already booked a reservation prior to getting the AP?
2) How does AP work with FP+?
3) I know there are many places you get a discount with the AP on property, is there a list or something that you can access to see all the places you get discounts?

Yes but generally it has not been that much difference from the killer deals lately so it's not a huge savings. Also rooms seem more limited in both what rooms and what resorts they are available it. You can change your reservation like any other discount that comes out. You can also get the discounts as soon as you buy the AP. If your on a killer discount that required tickets and you plan to upgrade them to an AP then you need to call to get the ap discount and upgrade to ap within 24 hours of check in to avoid being charged the difference in room rate (from standard/rack pricing).

2) How does AP work with FP+?

Same as without, the exception is you can book on the voucher before you activate it so as soon as you purchase the AP, normal fastpass+ rules apply (30 and 60 days depending if your in a disney resort or not).

The ap website might show them but generally if it's table service or a store you walk into you get 10% not including alcohol. Newer table service locations don't take any discounts at first and may not for a couple months. You are also eligible to purchase a tables in wonderland discount card which is a higher food discount at some locations and includes alcohol (www.tablesinwonderland.com for info). TiW has also been doing some interesting events, merch discounts at select locations and such lately but don't expect that to be normal).

What you didn't ask is yes you get free magicbands with the AP, same options as a resort visitor but you cannot order them until you activate the AP so you wouldn't have them in time for your trip as you can only activate in person.

When you exchange your voucher or purchase your AP at Guest Relations they will give you your hard ticket and a small booklet, easy to carry, that will list every discount you can get, restrictions etc. I just got mine a couple weeks ago.

1) They can, but you should probably not count on any wildly amazing deals. You have a certain amount of time (maybe 24 hours) to present an active AP at the resort. If you have pre-booked a resort and you want a discount, you'll have to call and add the discount to your reservation if your current reservation is eligible; if it's not eligible you'll need to change it to an eligible reservation to get the discount.

2) Just like it does with a regular ticket. Should also note that you are limited to holding 7 days of FP+ reservations at any one time, unless you are staying at a Disney resort for longer than that.

3) There is a list on www.allearsnet.com and they try to keep it updated. There's also a list on the Disney site, passholder section (you may have to have an AP linked to access the passholder section).

1. I've found that the AP discount is about 10% more, on avg. than the GP discount. It's not a lot but after several stays we've covered the cost of our AP.
It's a different pool of rooms also so it's possible for it to be sold out with the GP discount but available with the AP discount, and vice versa. If you want to book with the AP rate prior to getting an AP just call, they'll let you know what is available. Once you have an AP you can see the rates yourself. I've never had to show our AP at check in. Now that you may get a text to go straight to your room I think they just stopped asking for the proof figuring you have to have an AP to see the rates. We didn't even have to take our AP by on our first stay after getting the AP.

Thanks for the information. I doubt our resort currently qualifies for any discounts, we're staying at CR Dec 10-17. All the rooms for the current promotions were gone. I guess it doesn't hurt to see if an AP discount is available. We're probably going to get it anyway, because when we thought we had to cancel our December trip we started planning a May trip and now I'm excited for both. We typically go once a year anyway, so I can schedule to fit two trips into one AP cycle. I already have 4 sets of magic bands from all our previous trips, can we put the AP on one of those?

All bands assigned to you should read any ticket attached to your MDX account. The AP isn't going to be "on" any particular band, all your previous bands should be able to read it. You'll also be able to customize a new band after your AP has been activated.

When you activate your AP, they'll give you an AP card. You need to carry that card to redeem AP discounts at stores or restaurants, they won't take the band for that. You'll also probably need a photo ID to redeem discounts.
