I haven't been to US/IOA in 7 years. I was looking at the AP because it offers 30% off the hotel (I'm booked at HRH right now for $199 night Aug 24-27) and 15% off additional hopper tix (I would need 3 more tix) plus the 10-15% off restaurants isn't going to hurt either with two teen boys! I visit my mom in FLA at least one other time a year besides our yearly Orlando vacation so I would use it at least one other time. Here's my questions:

-If I buy an AP does the 1 year start when I use it for the first time or when I actually purchase it off the website? Just wondering if I should wait to purchase

-the 15% off each ticket....assuming this is off the gate price and do I have to purchase at the gate or once I become an AP holder is there a special place on the website to log in to do this?

-historically, what types of hotel discounts can I expect for late Aug? Thanks!

My answers in blue...I can't answer the question about hotel discounts since I don't stay onsite.

If you want to check out rates when you go on the website you can put in promotion code APH and it will tell you what the AP rate is for your stay. Last year we stated at the RPH for $159 a night the week before the 4th and this year we are also staying the last week of June for the WWOHP opening with a rate of $159 again.

We had checked coming in May and the reate was going to be $139 so it just depends on the time of year and what rooms are open.

If you check that same week in June now there are no more AP discounts so you are paying more for that rate than if you used the stay more rate, so if you are going soon I would just check the rates if that is one of the reasons you are getting the pass.

I purchased the AP last year and we used it for the rooms, food, and merchandise. We saved more than the difference of an AP pass over a ticket, and last year we had the $99 7 day tickets. This year I am going to renew it, even though we are going to be at the park prior to it expiring, since we plan on going at least one more time if not more in the next year. Plus gives me a good excuse to go to Orlando when I visit my family in Florida :cool1:

Book the room, with AP rate as it is now, , you do not need AP until checkin or after you collect it at the park guest services.
APH rates change, and could be a bit early for a good rate at End of August, but you can call if you see a better rate and change to it.

Thanks for asking this, we are doing EXACTLY the same thing. Booked HRH at APH rate for July, knowing we'll get 15% discounts on the 3 park-to-park tix we still need. Didn't buy the pass yet though - taxes paid first -

Funny! The AP rate is $12 more a night than what I booked:rolleyes:. I think I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the AP as 10% off meals can really add up with my big-appetite fiance' and two bottom feeding teenage boys! Plus I am planning a girls-only trip to FLA within the next year so it will be good! The lady was really nice when I booked she even told me that she expects the AP rate to go down to maybe $144 for the end of August. Even at $159 that would be great!

The all you can eat pass for your kids could be helpful to save money. I plan on getting this for nephew since he eats a lot too and kids meals rarely do him any good lately. Its $11.99 for a 2 park and one day and thats roughly two kids meals.

As for the tickets....Universal runs deals for AP holders where you can get half off tickets. They had one in Feb so idk if it will spring up again but it might. So you should look out for that imo to see if you can snag one of those up before your trip.

I have found the hotel deals through AP isn't always the best option. Its also a shame you still have to pay the parking at the resorts when you get free parking at the parks. But they do run deals frequently where RPR goes from $139-$159 ish starting prices.

Just be aware that there is not much variety with the kids meals . Kids have to order off the kids menu. I heard a lot of parent complaining when I was there over spring break...

Just FYI

my "kids' are 14 and 17:goodvibes so no kiddie meal passes for them! Also, I don't think it will be worth it as we'd eat breakfast before getting to the parks and the parks close at 7 (according to the offical website!! ugh!!) so we will eat dinner elsewhere later in the evening after leaving the park.

Thanks for that reminder. I knew that but didn't think much about what he would be eating. The kid rarely eats anything but chicken strips so it might work.

Anyone know whats on kids meals? I remember Peanut butter and Jelly in one place but for some reason I can't recall any of the other items on it.
