AP questions...help a darkside newbie out please!

Hi! I've tried to read through the stickies and threads, but I still have some questions. Any help would be appreciated!

We're going to WDW in January and we're tacking on 3 days at Universal at the end of our trip (check in and check out days will be partial days with a full day in the middle)
DH and I are excited to take the kids (DD 9, DS 7, DD 6) to the Harry Potter themed areas...they're Potter NUTS, especially the older 2!

I'm considering an AP, but part of the reason is for potential savings for this trip.

Resort discounts.... what AP discounts are typical for January?
We want to stay on site, and the Express Pass is important to us, so deluxe would be our preference.

Ticket discounts...what are the ticket lines like onsite? Is the 10 -15% discounts the AP would get, the best value, or am I better off purchasing another way?

Anything else I should know?

what dates in january will you be at the darkside hotels?

have you booked yet?


some dates will be busier with the parry hotter celebration at the end of the month.

tour groups start usually in the second part of the month.

i checked in on jan 6th this year and my hotel was packed due to conventions and the Voz competition.

i had booked with the AP rate and it brought my room rate down to $152, something in that range.
i had abooked with the SMSM rate but the AP rates came out in early november and i modified the room rate to the AP.

AAA is another discount you can use for room booking.

check out mapleleaf and undercover tourist and compair the ticket prices to the UO website.
they should be cheaper.
