AP Question

If I buy an AP today, is there a date by which I have to use it for the first time?

We are travelling in October but thought there may be a price rise before then so wanted to pre-purchase

I know that the AP doesn't actually start until the first time you enter the parks with it but I wasn't sure if we had to redeem by a certain date?
