Can you buy a new annual pass voucher for yourself before your current pass has expired?
For example if prices are going up (more than the $40 renewal savings)and we wanted to buy a new one before ours expires can we?

Thanks -

Ellen

I bought my latest AP a number of months before the other one expired. I bought a new pass as I did not want it start on the expiration of the old one as there was a 3 month time frame that I would not use it. My old one expired in Sept and my new one now expires in Dec. I just put the voucher away until I was ready to use it. I don't know if you can do that for a renewal however.

With a renewal or just buying a new AP? Are there any advantages to buying the renewal passes as opposed to buying a new one?

The only thing I know is that you receive an additional discount of about $40 dollars if you renew. What I am not sure about though is does the renewal pass start the same day your old pass expires or not until you begin using it again.

Thanks -

Ellen

when we renewed onel ast year it started on the same date as the ORIGINAL one, even though we picked up our renewal a few weeks later.

But it sounds like you can buy a separate one before yours expires (not at renewal price) and start it whenever you want? Am I correct on this one?

Thanks!

I was wondering this too.... I currently have a annual pass. Mine expires in August. Not sure when the price increases so was wondering if I could renew it a few months ahead of time so as to get the renewal price before it increases. Anyone know if you can renew a pass a few months before it is set to expire? And anyone know the dates they usually increase the prices on? I will be going to disney in August again this year so it makes sense for me to renew it.

No you can't. AP's can only be renewed during a 60 day window (30 days before expiration through 30 days after expiration) under normal circumstances.

There is no set time for the price to increase. It will happen at Disney's discretion. It could be August again or it could be next week or maybe not until December. Just no way to know.

That is correct, and the renewal may not be the best deal for those of us who live a distance away and can't go as often. We usually have 3 trips down in a year. We used to always alter our two trips by a week and get them just under a year apart. Now we go for example: first week of January, May, first week of December. The following year, we wouldn't renew in January, but would wait until our March trip to save a few months. That seems to me to be more of a savings than teh $40 renewal perk. We did this even before the DVC discount. When we first purchased APs, you could renew at any time, and the clock would start ticking on the renewal the first time you used it after renewing. That changed about 6-7 years ago, and they went to renewal only on your anniversary date. That made our habits change as well. It's the reason we were so happy when the DVC discount came around.

Yes, you can. I bought my renewal voucher last summer for my AP that didn't expire until April 28, 2007 just to beat the price increase that was announced then. August, I think it was. I just renewed it when I was there the end of April with that voucher.

You may have been able to do it (exceptions happen every day) but it isn't policy to do so. Guest Relations CMs have great latitude with making exceptions to ticketing policy and you were the recipient of some pixie dust, most likely due to the pending increase. It is not standard policy that everyone can take for granted.

I did it online so I think the process was automated.

DH renewed his pass on Sunday evening in DTD. I happened to ask about the policy for the renewal "window" and was told exactly what you posted: you can renew a pass 30 days before to 30 days after the expiration date.

Thanks everyone for the info on renewing. I'm headed down there in a couple weeks so will probably also ask there too.

That may be true as far as actually renewing the pass. I did renew the pass within a week of the expiration date and got the new one with the expiration date a year later than the original date. BUT, I bought the pass renewal voucher on line last summer for the pass that was to expire at the end of April, 2007.
