I have some friend who are new to DVC, and we are all leaving for WDW on Feb. 3. I have had my AP vouchers for some time, but our friends don't have any tickets yet and want to buy APs as they'll be returning in April. She wanted to buy the APs and pick them up when she gets there, and MS told her she can't do that, that she just needs to purchase them when she gets there.

I thought you could purchase them ahead of time and pick them up at will call. I just want to make sure she gets the DVC discount. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks so much!

You can purchase DVC APs at Guest Services at any park. You need to show your DVC membership card and photo ID.

You can also purchase them in advance via DVC website. However, you will be sent an AP voucher and will have to show DVC membershp and photo ID to activate it. Or, you can pre-order your AP via the website and opt to pick it up at will call. I did this last summer.

Truthfully, since you need to go to the same place to activate a voucher or pick-up a will-call as you do to puchase a pass, it is just as easy to puchase the pass at WDW rather than pre-order, unless you want to pre-order the Disney Dining Experience card...in which case you'll need a voucher and not will-call, becasue you'll need a code from the back of the voucher.

Thanks! I was just concerned because I know with some tickets the advance purchase price is less than buying at the gate, so I wasn't sure if there would be an issue with getting the discount if they didn't buy in advance. Looks like they're all set!

I did order one a couple of years ago through MS and we picked it up at Guest Relations as a will call order.

But as Chuck said, it really saves no time....or virtually none.

I did it in order to get the renewal price rather than purchase a new one. Our trip was just a couple of weeks away but the 30 day grace period for renewing was days away.

In any case, your friend will still need to present photo id and her DVC membership card whether it is a simple purchase or willcall.
