You can definitely upgrade park tickets to annual passes.

Tickets – Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
Can I upgrade theme park tickets after they are purchased?

A.
Yes. If it is within 14 days of a theme park ticket’s first use and the ticket has remaining admissions, you are able to upgrade the ticket. If it is more than 14 days after first use or if no admissions remain, then a ticket may not be modified or upgraded.

Upgrades may include:

  • Upgrading a 1-Day Value Ticket to a Regular or Peak Ticket
  • Adding days
  • Upgrading to a Park Hopper Ticket
  • Upgrading to an Annual Passport
Where to Upgrade Tickets

Ticket upgrades must be made in person at the following locations at the Disneyland Resort:

Tickets are nonrefundable and may not be downgraded to a ticket with less entitlements.

Yes, you can upgrade the tickets, and most on here recommend getting the hoppers, using the magic morning access, then upgrading to annual pass (unless you're staying at a DLR hotel, then you get in early each day it's offered).

Yup...many will but the multi day parkhoppers to use the MM perk and/or get in on what would be a blackout days then upgrade to an AP as soon as practical to take advantage of the AP discounts inside the park which can be substantial on a muti day trip.

Just needs to be upgraded before the end of you last day of eligible use on the multi day ticket to get value towards the AP.

If you are looking to stay on site, you need to call and book the AP rate over the phone if you do not yet have your AP. You do not need to have the AP in hand to book that rate, only present it before checkout day. If you are booking a room and ticket package online you are looking at rack rates, not the possible available AP rates.

If you are indeed stayin on site you get EE every day and if there are no blackouts on the AP you wanna buy during your trip, then there is no advantage to buy tickets then upgrade. Just go right for the AP.

Cool prob going to be staying at a off site not sure yet but what is EE thou?

what is EE thou?

If you advance purchase a multi day Parkhopper, you get one Magic Morning entry into Disneyland on select days...if you stay at one of the three resort hotels it is referred to as Early Entry where you MM every day you are there and then they open DCA one hour early to resort guests on opposite days of MM. EE perk for resort gusts is essentially MM every day at one park or the other depending on the day.

ok thanks Disneyland is so different then Disney world but i really want to go to Disneyland

Just like with WDW you don't *have to* book a package. In fact I've booked a package at Disneyland exactly once. Every other time I bought tickets or an AP as needed, and I booked my hotel as a room-only reservation through either my fave online TA (which for us happens to be hotels.com) or directly with the hotel.

i might just book thou a outside website and get the ap when we are there might be easier

It depends on the kind of pass and what your projected travel dates are. All but the most expensive pass have some black out dates. Here is the link to checkout the passes and the blackout dates.

Ya I looked at blackout dates and that's a non issue we are planning for the last two weeks in January 2018 as we are going to world this year in may

Unless there is a SIGNIFICANT price savings, I always recommend booking direct with the property once you do your research. There are too many got-chas and restrictions when booking through third party sites and there is not really any benefit when booking through Disney as a "good neighbor" hotel.

I was wondering if there was any benefits with booking thou Disney or not thanks for the pointers

I always book directly. There are lots of great off property places to stay. We upgraded hoppers to AP's one year because we knew that we would do another trip within the year. We also like to spend 8-10 days in the parks. It got a little crazy when we jammed another trip in the middle for my 50th. Not cheap when you are travelling from Canada. Beware the extra trip because we have AP's lol.
