Bear with me. I tried to post this earlier and kept getting an error message

Let's say you have an AP. The rest of your family do not. You are planning on booking a room at a discounted rate BRP (hopefully ;) ) for a trip.
You are getting the rest of your family (DH and kids) MYW tickets. You really want to do the MYW dining for everyone, including you. You've done the DDE card, but this time you want MYW dining for all.

How do you do this? How does the buy a one day ticket thing work? Will you walk me through it? :confused3 :confused3 Can you have dining if you book a room usuing BRP?

Thanks!

Well, you cannot book a room with the BRP and add the dining. Dining can only be added to a Magic Your Way Package. You would have to take at least a one day base ticket with the package. Everyone on the package must take the same ticket.

Here is how you do it.

You book the MYW package with dining and only book a 1-day ticket for everyone. Pay, the deposit, then pay the balance when it is due.

Once you arrive, take the tickets, and upgrade your family's tickets to whatever amount they need for the trip, be it 6-day, 7-day, park hopping, Water Park fun, etc.

Do not upgrade your ticket. You use your Annual Pass.

After your trip, you have a 1-day ticket to use any way you wish, such as applying it toward your next Annual Pass, etc.

Another option if spending the money NOW is not a problem, go ahead and purchase the level of tickets your family needs for all of you including yourself, then when the trip is over, if you never start your ticket, then you have a ticket to use for your next trip. If you use ANY option on it at all, then unless you get nonexpiring, it won't be any good after 14 days.

Edited to add. You won't be able to book a BRP room and add MYW or Dining. You will have to book a regular room and hunt for some other discount.

Hope this helps.

So I can't book BRP for a lower room rate and get MYW tickets with dining when I get there.

It makes sense but bummer. I kept reading about AP holders buying a one day MYW ticket so they could get dining for their stay. How would that save money?? (no room discount!) I guess I should crunch more numbers and see what'll save us more money.

Am I correct on it now? :confused3

AP holders booked the MYW w/dining packages but they paid rack rate for the rooms and only 1 day's worth of park tickets. They saved money on the park tickets. It really depends on where you are planning to stay. Rack rate at value resorts and even moderates during value season aren't too much higher and make the dining worth the extra expense of the room. If you are planning on staying in a deluxe resort, it really isn't worth it to pay for the dining package.

Thank you so much for your help. I need to sit down and figure out our plans before I decide what to do. It doesn't look like I'm going to get an AP now, though!

A lot of AP Holders were doing this during the FREE Dining Plan offer. Even at rack rate, and a 1-day MYW ticket, this was a savings.
