I'm keeping my fingers crossed AP sales resume VERY soon, so hypothetically...

I have a trip planned for end of August and October...if i purchase park tickets for those 2 trips and APs miraculously come back before then, will Disney take the cost of the tickets i purchased for both those trips and apply to my AP? I know i can buy tickets and then go to guest services and they will upgrade that day's/trip's ticket to an AP, but will they also take the cost of what i paid for October and apply that to the AP purchase?

Disney will only apply the value of 1 ticket to an upgrade. So it would be either the August ticket or the October ticket but not both.

You could purchase the October ticket in order to be able to book park reservations during that busy month and then upgrade them to an AP in August if AP sales resume.

Or you could just wait to see what happens. There's a rumor that AP sales will resume on August 17 but the situation is fluid and it would not be surprising if the day comes and goes with no change in policy.

That rumor is based solely on 8/17 being the last day for complimentary MagicBands with the purchase of a new or renewed AP.

Exactly! People have latched onto that announcement and extrapolated it to mean APs would return then. But Disney has made no indication that there is a set date for sales to resume. Nor would I expect them to.

I never believed the 8/16 date either, but with the Disneyland Legacy AP discount now only being extended to 8/15 as opposed to the end of the month like it had been every other time...I am now a believer!!!! Maybe they are releasing both resorts APs mid-August. ok not really but lets hope

The demographics between DL & WDW are far too different to think what they do at DLR will be done at WDW. The population of the greater LA metro area is nearly equal that of the entire State of FL. On any typical day at DL, upwards of 75% enter using an AP. At WDW, it's around 25% entering using an AP. DL has been trying for years to reduce the number of passholders by way of massive price increases.

While they won’t apply more than one ticket cost to the AP, the money spent never goes away if you haven’t used them.

So, you buy both now and APs are available by your August trip, you can upgrade those. Then the value of the October tickets can be used toward the renewal next year..or the value applies down the road.

That wasn't my statement. Was just pointing out there's a little bit more evidence that the 8/16 date could be significant for APs at the US Parks. They could still be different and announced at the same time, but if you ask our fearless leader Pete he'll say the programs are going to be similar to each other.

If WDW really wanted to end the existing AP program and change it, they would have done so during the (brief) shutdown. Instead, they continue to allow people to renew passes and sell new passes to those that either cancelled or let their passes expire after the shutdown.

I have no leader named Pete, nor do I care what his opinions are.
