AP: Is it worth it just for the AP rates?

We will be returning to WDW in September of 2008. If I were to buy an AP, would it be worth it just for the AP rate on the room alone? Also, we would be reserving two rooms. As long as I do all the reservations, I only need one AP, correct? Everyone else could just have MYW tickets, right?

One last thing: if I got an AP, I'll still need a one day MYW ticket to get the DDP, right? I know, it's a lot of questions, but I'm weighing all my options.

We've been AP holders for 4 yeas now. I think your question about is the room discount worth getting an AP really depends on how often you go to WDW and what level resort you stay at. Deluxe resorts give the best discount, normally around $100 per night, so if you stay for 9 nights you will save roughly $900 on the room alone. So you can figure your own math from there, but for our situation, we get 3 trips out our AP normally for around 9 nights each trip, so 27 nights x $100 savings per night = $2,700 total savings on room alone.

Having said that, there is never a guaranty that AP discounts will be released for your time frame in WDW. We normally go during value season or regular season and I have always received an AP rate.

I believe you only need one AP to reserve two rooms. But I'm sure others on the board can answer that for sure.

Have fun planning!

You cannot get an AP discount on the room and book a package with DDP.

I have an AP because it makes sense due to the number of park days I am using it. I purchased it last May and ended up using it for 21 park days. I also got the AP discount on my room for 3 of my 4 trips last year. Last August instead of an AP discount on the room I booked a package with free dining. I had to purchase a 1 day ticket to get that package. I was able to use that 1 day ticket toward the renewal of my AP in May.
