Second time AP holder here, but it's been many years since the first. I noticed AP discounts are listed on the site about 3 months in advance, do they typically give discounts year round? Looking at a trip this August, wanted to surprise with a stay at the Grand Californian. Last time we stayed there it was around $300 per night. I am experiencing sticker shock at the moment :)

As you have seen Times Have Changed! The rates for Disney hotels has really made some huge jumps in price the last few years.

Disney does have discounts for guests and AP holders. The number of rooms at the discounted rate are limited.
When they do come out they book FAST.

You can look at this link for Disney's past promotions and get a feel of what might happen this year.

Many people will book their dates for the Disney hotel of their choice. If/When a promotion comes out they call and request the reservation be adjusted to the promotion rate.

This is exactly what I do and it has never been an issue when I call. But I watch faithfully and call the same day a promotion comes out.

Good luck

Great tip, thank you!

We got a pretty good AP rate -- 30% off plus a $20 dining voucher and 2 anything FPs -- for the third week of August, right after the end of peak season. I think it was Sun-Thurs nights available. I don't remember when it cam out but I do recall originally booking and then altering the rate once it popped up.

I know it is a $plurge. It was a special adult anniversary trip and I think we made good use of it with a woods/courtyard view and pool time each afternoon.
