AP holders-question about Magic Bands

I just got a new AP (it is at will call for my pick up in three weeks). I have my MB for the reservation. Am I supposed to get another MB for the AP? Do I have to request it? Do they give me a band at Will Call? I saw that the AP bands have a slider.

So confused. Can any AP holders help with recent experience?

You can order an AP magic band but from what I've read that's not available to do until you activate your AP (check your MDE, there is a second spot for AP MBs) You will want to request one once you get home because they will include the slider and the discount card (CMs will still allow you to show your actual AP to get the merchandise and food discounts).
If you AP is linked to your MDE acct along with your hotel Disney resort reservation it will work as room key and to get you into the park. I have 4 MBs. First one from Sept, second from March, third I ordered as my AP magic band this month (went to Disney last minute, hotel check-in asked if I needed a MB I told them I had my AP MB and was told I didn't need a new one that my key would automatically be linked to it) and fourth one is because I'm going with oldest daughter and her kids for Mother's Day weekend.

I've read that if you lose your MB and need a replacement Disney is going to charge for that, that's one reason I have a couple of extra. When we went last month my SIL brought his new resort MB and his MB from Sept both worked to open his room door.

You will get an AP MagicBand order in MDE after you pick up your AP tickets.

Once you do that you can go to that MagicBand order in MDE, customize the band then click the Ship Now button. Disney will ship it to you in the next few days with the slider and gold card.

There's no way to get the MagicBand at will call... Yet. Maybe one day but not right now.

thanks everyone! With two trips planned this year (and maybe a one day visit in November) I will eventually have 3 MBs and maybe a fourth. If I work at it I could have a complete color set by this time next year!

Do you HAVE to get a new MB for each stay? I thought once we got the AP ones we would just reuse them for each trip. If you have an AP one and a resort one do you wear them both? Which has FP's? I'm not quite understanding all this....

I customized my AP magic band on the MDE app in early March and I received it by the end of March. You have to link you AP to your MDE accoutn.

I now have 2MB's, my AP one (with the AP slider) and one from my spring break stay. I'm going again in June and will have another one from that stay too.

If you book a resort stay you'll get a new MB each time. If they're all active you can use any one you want. Heck you could match it to your outfit that day if you feel like it. I interchanged my AP and my resort stay one on our last trip during spring break with no issues. Your FP+, dining ADRs, and room key are on them all if they're active.

Nothing is stored on the MagicBands except for a unique id number. The MagicBands, along with room reservations, admission, FP+ selections, etc. are all linked to MDE Profiles. The MagicBand is just a key to reading the data stored on your profile. All active MagicBands that are assigned to you can be used interchangeably.

You can customize your AP MagicBand on your My Disney Experience account and it comes with a slider, which can be used on any of your MagicBands as long as they're all activated. I already have three MagicBands from just one trip!

I'm curious why we didn't get these sliders with our magicbands we just used? Is it because we already had current AP's and not new AP's? Luckily I brought along our card AP's so we could use our AP discount while shopping.

Did you get your magic bands from a resort stay? Are your APs linked to your MDE account online? If they are you should see an option to customize a new set of magic bands for your APs and once you confirm your address they ship them to you. Inside the box is the AP slider and also inside the box in an envelope is a card that you use to get your free parking and your AP discount.

If you don't have your AP registered on your MDE account you can add them and in a day or two you'll see the option to customize new magic bands for them.

Did you get MB for an onsite stay or AP bands? The box and what's in them are different. I just got our AP bands a couple weeks ago and my AP expires in less than a month so it definitely doesn't need to be new.

I also have vouchers so I can't customize my AP bands until after our trip. We will get our resort ones though. I was just hoping to have two colors, oh well, I'll have 3 on our November trip since we usually stay onsite.

Just remember, even if you have the AP magic bands, you still need the AP or discount card to show for the merchandise discounts and parking. Hopefully they integrate everything in the near future.

I did have my AP's registered on MDE and I had everything linked and set up (AP's, dining, resort, FP+). We went to Disney last week, stayed at Poly, and everything worked like a charm, except I guess we were just sent regular magic bands and not the slider indicating we have AP's. It worked out ok because I also brought along our plastic AP cards just in case. But I was just curious because MDE had our AP's registered why we just got regular magic bands. As a side note, we've been AP holders for over 10 straight years...

How strange. We stayed at AoA on 3/28 and had a magic band order for that stay but there was also another order for our AP magic bands that popped up in early March to be customized. And the way I knew it was
For the APs was because they needed to confirm my address once I picked the color and name and it said once I confirmed they'd be shipping out ASAP.
