Suffering acute Disneyland withdrawls

Hi!
I'm an annual pass holder (a newish one, I guess, lol...I got mine in September last year) and I have the Southern California select package. Being as that certain package limits the days you can go to low-traffic, mostly off-season days, and considering the fact that I only used my AP for three months before moving from sunny California to frigid Chicago, I never had the oppourtunity to observe Disneyland in full capacity. The most crowded day I ever went was winter break a few years ago (a BAD idea in hindsight) and I never saw any huge crowds while I had my AP, except maybe for one of the days when they were filming for the ABC Christmas special.
Anyway, Lord willing I will be flying down to California this summer to visit friends, help out at a conference and yes, visit Disneyland! Having had severe Disney withdrawls these past few months, you can't imagine how excited I am to go again.
The dates I will be going is June 16and/or17th and June 23rd.
Well, I've heard horror stories of the type of crowds Disneyland gets during peak season, and I'm rather intimidated! (Good thing it's Disneyland and not WDW; if it were I'd probably be curled up in a fetal position moaning right now.
)
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you peak-season goers could give me some advice as how to plan differently? I won't have any small kids with me so I'll be fairly mobile; it will just be me and a friend the first week and a few adults the second week.
Any tips or advice would be very appreciated.
The only event I need to get to is the Prince Caspian pre-parade and the Electrical parade if it's running (I'm assuming it will be).
Thanks so much for your help!
P.S. I'm used to taking out fast-passes and then using them past the allotted return time that same day; will I have a problem with this during the busy season?
