Hi all! I'm going on a trip to WDW in just 14 days (woohoo!) but I know I'll be back next May so I think I'm going to buy an AP since I'll pass the break even point.

My question is this: I have already purchased a 5 day PH pass that I plan on upgrading to a platinum AP as soon as I get to the parks. Will I immediately be able to take advantage of discounts and benefits from that moment on or is there some kind of delay?

Thanks all!

Yes. The second you walk out of guest services as an AP holder, you're eligible. In fact, if you buy something before you make the upgrade, keep the receipt and they'll reimburse you for the amount you would have gotten a discount for.

discounts as in food and merchandise? When you upgrade your pass, you should get the AP "card" (I don't know what its called) that you show all the CMs to get discounts....that obviously works automatically.....

but Disney has different AP discounts that change from time to time, and are on offer from time to time....obviously those are only for a limited time...

You could call now to see if there are AP rates for your resort. If so, then you could book it. Ask them when you call, when you need to show the AP at CBR.

Follow up question: Since AP room discounts usually come out later than general public discounts, can I still book before my 180 day mark at rack rate then apply the AP discount once it becomes available like you can with general discounts?

I won't need them now- we're doing Free Dining on our trip coming up. I'm more looking toward our spring trip in 2018.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does this also apply to unused MNSSHP tickets? Thanks!

DW and I are going in Sept and purchased MNSSHP tickets, THEN decided to go ahead and purchase AP's. I called and was told by ticketing that it is not standard policy but they did refund me the difference. You have to call and ask and the tickets have to be re-issued. I chose paper ticket so no big deal but not sure how it would work if you chose hard tickets.

Thanks! We have paper tickets (print yourself) as well and I plan to upgrade my 5 day PH to an AP when I arrive, so maybe I'll just try asking guest services then about applying the discount. Not a huge deal if they can't do it.

Follow up to my follow-up: I've heard conflicting reports on if you need to use at least one day of your original PH pass in order to upgrade to AP and keep free dining. Is this true?

Also, if I do have to use one day before I can upgrade, would I be able to download photopass photos from that day even though they were technically taken before I was an AP holder?

Okay sorry another question: During this FD trip, I'm sharing a room with a friend who will not be upgrading to an AP. I know that everyone in a room is supposed to have the same package for FD to apply. Will this screw up that arrangement since I'll be on an AP and she'll be on a regular MYW ticket?
