AP Discount on multiday tickets?

We are planning our first foray to USO next month. I'm considering getting one AP for discounts, then buying 2 day tix for the rest of my group. I saw that AP holders get a 15% discount on multiday tickets, but it looked like maybe only at the park gate?

Are tickets generally more expensive at the gate than they would be if you bought them ahead of time, or is it easy to get more than a 15% discount by going to UT or another third party seller?

Trying to figure out if I should factor the discount on the other tickets into my decision to buy a regular multiday ticket or an AP for myself.

Gate price is always more expensive, depending on length of stay and how much you plan to spend at the parks/citywalk/parking or on site stay, the preferred AP still probably will save you money.
