AP+Dining Question

My family has APs, so I'm looking at booking a room only res. with the AP room only discount for our upcoming May trip. Here are my questions:

1. I know I can add on the dining plan, but does it become a package-subject to paid in full 45 days before arrival?

2. Can I just make the room only ressie, and add the dining portion on closer to arrival time (as long as I'm in that 5 days before arrival time period?)

Already found the answer to my own question---

1. Yes, I can add on the dining portion to my AP room only--but it then becomes a package, to be paid in full 45 days out.

2. I can add the dining on later, but if within 45 days of arrival, entire balance will have to be paid then.

We just went in January on an AP discount. I called a few days before our arrival to ask if we could add the dining plan. The CM told me I had until 3 days before our arrival to add it. Of course, you would have to pay the balance then because it does become a package, but you would be paying it in a couple of days anyways and then you wouldn't be subject to the stricter cancellation policies.

Yes, both posts are correct. We booked AP room only for last December, and added dining later. They actually had to cancel our room only to book the package, but it didn't change any of the details.

The 3 day minimum is correct, also.

Oh, this is good to know. I want to book the room portion of the room now, but I really don't want those package policies applied so soon.

So, I think I will book the room only, and then call back the first or second week of May and add the DP on.

Yes and if you wait, yes, you don't pay that far in advance plus if you have Disney Visa 6 months no interest. It's a great benefit, we keep the money in savings for the extra 6 months!!
