You have to have a package (room, dining and tickets). You could book a package with just a 1 day pass for later use. Dining nights must equal room nights but park passes can be any length.
Would you be staying using an AP rate on your room? If yes, then no. If not, then you can buy a one day ticket as the above person noted and be able to get the dining package. Save the ticket for another stay, when either you or someone with you won't have an AP. By the way, each person in the room will need to buy the same package...at least one ticket and the dining plan.
Ok, maybe I am confused. I thought if you just added one day tickets to your room reservation, then the one day would be attached to your room key and therefore would expire at the end of your stay.
If it doesn't expire, it would be worth it, but if it does, then doing that to add on the dining plan, would not be cost effective.
No, the one-day pass, even though it is on your room key, is good until you decide to use it. Just save the room key. A lot of people who have APs have done this. It was especially good for the time when Disney offered the free dining promotion.
