We are going to WDW in August on a MYW + Dining package. I am planning to upgrade my ticket to an AP when we get there. Can I get a DDE card once I upgrade to the AP or not? Allears says no. Even though we will have the dining plan I want the DDE to use for our additional TS meals during the trip. Anyone have any experience with this?

Once you have an AP you should be able to get the DDE. Just call the number for DDE and order it. They should send a printout to the guest relations office at Epcot for you to pick up and will allow you to get the discount while you are there. The card will then arrive 2-3 weeks later.

I am little slow this morning - sorry!
Let me see if I have this straight -
We arrive on Thursday night. Friday morning I can go upgrade my ticket to an AP. I can then call DDE and order a card, and go pick up the letter at Epcot at some point after that? Is that correct? I wonder what the turn-around time on that will be. We will be at Epcot on Sunday, but I know DDE isn't open on weekends. Hmm. I guess I can always swing by Epcot later in the trip if I need to. Thanks for your help! :flower:

But they aren't getting the AP until they arrive and can upgrade the ticket. The question is can they get a DDE card while on the premises if they don't have the AP until then.

I don't know the answer to that one.

Not to throw a monkey wrench into things, but if you booked a package with the dining plan, can you upgrade to AP? I was under the impression that in order to have the dining plan, you had to book a package that includes at least one day of MYW tickets. If you upgrade, you won't have MYW tickets anymore, therefore, not eligible for the package. Unless you left one day of MYW tickets on the package. Does that make any sense?

Anyway, once you have your AP number in hand, you can call DDE and purchace the DDE card. You can tell them you are already at WDW and they will have a temporary card for you at Epcot GS. However, it may not be there that day. I have heard that it sometimes takes 24 hours for them to process it. So, make sure you don't have any OOP TS's during your first 2 days of your trip. Hope it works out for you!

Yes! You can upgrade you ticket when you get there. Once you have an AP you can get the DDE. The turnaround id fast. Often you can pick up a temprary DDE card from Epcot after 5pm on the same day that you phone and pay for the DDE. However, as you said you are bound by the opening o hours of the DEE office.

As for the condion you have booked a package, you have, they then do not penalise you to prevent you from upgrading.

Huh, well I'll be. I did not know this. Well, I guess that does make sense. I was just thinking about all those people last year during free dining with AP's that had to buy the one day bas MYW tickets in order to get the package, but since this is the other way around and they already have MYW, makes sense to let them upgrade.

Very cool. Thanks for the info!

I have heard from other DISers that they upgraded their MYW tickets to different things after they arrived - Disney apparently doesn't care. If they won't let me upgrade the pass from the package then we will still probably buy at least one AP and a DDE card while we are there. It makes sense that once we have the AP squared away that I can call DDE from WDW and ask to have the letter at Epcot ASAP. If we can pick it up on Sunday that would be perfect (if DDE can get it completed by close of business Friday), but if it is Monday or later we can still deal with it. We'll run through our TS credits on the Dining Plan first, then switch to DDE at the end of the week.
Thanks again, all!
