Is there ever a time/way when annual passholders can get a free dining promotion if they stay on Disney property?

I think so, but you have to pay full price for your room. Someone else may know the details.

Sure - if they pay full rack rate for the room AND purchase at least 2-day park tickets. There is no option for annual passholders to get free dining without purchasing tickets. That works for paid dining, but not free dining.

But yoy can save the park tickets and use them toward the cost of your ap renewal.

Sure, as long as you don't use them first.
Check out the stickey "Walt Disney Tickets" by Cheshire Figment under Theme Parks.... and you'll get a better idea.

Yes as AP holders we've done this a few time. No discounts on your room and you have to buy tickets. We did it when we only had to buy the one day tickets, now they require you to buy 2 day tickets for everyone on your reservation. We won't do this. Too much money to have sitting around until renewal time and keep in mind that you have to do the renewal in person in order to apply the value of the unused tickets and it all has to be within the renewal timeframe. You can also use the unused tickets towards the price of your new AP, again in person only.

because we have to buy a specific number of park tickets days added to your reservation, to me its not worth it. They offer AP dining. I called to add "free dining to our package and it jacked the price up almost $300.00. You can use those days toward your renewal, but to me it wasnt worth it.

If it's a wedding/honeymoon, and there are just two adults in the room, and they're staying at a deluxe resort, make sure you do the math and factor in any available room discounts before jumping at free dining. Sometimes buying the dining and taking the room discount is a better deal than free dining, especially if you're annual passholders who don't need the tickets.

Thanks I'll have to get the spreadsheet out to run the numbers......:)

We had this choice to make this year. Since we are staying at WL and got a great AP room discount back in Jan. the free dining was not as good of a savings for us. We purchased the dining plan and kept the room discount. Had we been staying at a value, the dining would probably have been a better choice. Once you crunch the numbers, you'll be able to see what is best for your situation.

As a general rule, if you are a Passholder you will usually be better off buying the TiW card than "free" dining. You get a room discount and can use the discount on alcoholic beverages. Also you are not locked into specific meal portions.

for more info on discounts you can visit the Dis's Discount Codes and Rates board for more info. That board is specifically designated for these types of questions and may have more posters with information relevant to the questions.
