AP and buying tickets at the gate vs hotel

I need to buy a ticket for my husband- to get the discount so I have to go to the front gate or do you get the discount at the hotel as well?

Also does he need to be present or can I just purchase a ticket and give it to him

Are you asking about getting a regular (non-AP) park ticket for your husband using your AP discount? I think you have to purchase at the gate but I don't see why he has to be there
But check the math on the discount often buying tickets thru UT and others can be cheaper.
