AP activation and magicband confusion

We recently purchased annual passes, but won’t be activating them until August. We live in Michigan, but have two long trips planned within one calendar year, so APs made sense.

I understand that Disney won’t send your AP magic band until you activate the AP, which for us means we won’t have them yet for our trip this summer. I know you can just use your AP card in the meantime, but I really prefer having the magic bands - especially for Fastpasses and all that. If we buy magic bands for this trip, are we able to sync them to our APs? Or is there some other workaround I’m unaware of?

All Magic Bands and ticket entitlements are linked together via your MDX account, so yes.

If you have old MBs from a previous trip or if you are staying onsite, those MBs will also access your account, so you can just use them. Or, if you’re offsite and don’t have any old MBs to use, once you activate your APs, go to the ticket location in Liberty Square in MK and they’ll give you MBs (non-customized, but you can pick colours).

Good to know that old MBs will still work! We do have some. I’d read somewhere that the battery in them dies eventually and they stop working?

I might order cool ones anyways. My son is dying for the Goofy Movie MB.

Any MBs from the last year or two should be fine for all features. Older bands than that might not work for the long-range functions like automatically picking up ride photos.

The more essential functions will work indefinitely. Things that work based on long-range capability will stop working after a few years.
