AOL/RoadRunner question..

Okay - DD & her DH now have (and will have) RoadRunner through their cable company when they move. I believe the ISP they're using is MSN.. (I'm not "up" on this stuff so forgive me if I'm not providing the right info..)

When we move in with them, could I still get AOL on MY computer while hooked to their cable system? And is there a different charge for that than what I pay now for AOL dial-up?

Much as I hate always getting kicked off AOL, slowloading pages, etc., I feel like I can navigate my way around the internet better and I'm not keen on learning something different..

Did any of that make sense? LOL

I currently have Roadrunner, and I use AOL at no other charge. It's just a different connection

LOL nonono-sorry like I said I was on the phone!
I do pay the usual AOL fees, but there's no extra charge for using it through RR

Also want to add-I've only been kicked off AOL once while on RR, and it automatically signs you back on (well, 9.0 anyways!)
You wont have nearly as many problems with slow loads, etc...Road Runner is a LOT better than standard dial up for AOL and many other things!

Well, I'm not sure what's the deal with Manda getting it for free, but...

A quick check of AOL's site find this page here that has different plans. It's $14.95 for monthly service, and they throw in 5 hours of free dialup.

I would think you could call and tell them you don't want dialup AT ALL and see if they will knock the monthly fee down to $9.99. Can't hurt to ask.

Well, technically I don't, the only reason I have it on my computer is because my boyfriend only has dial up through AOL, so I have a screen name on his account and I just sign on from home to check my e-mail. (I use Outlook for regular e-mail, but AOL for school related). So I hope that clears things up!
But I promise C. Ann, life without AOL is not bad. You can get free AOL instant messaging by downloading AIM, and you can use Internet Explorer to do things on the web. It's really not worth it to spend the extra however much a month to have AOL, unless you really feel comfortable..Maybe we can ween you off of it??

Can you tell I'm one of those "older" folks that doesn't adjust to change very well? LOL

Okay - when I move in with my DD & her DH I'm going to COUNT on you guys to ween me off and walk me thru the maze..

I fired AOL a little over a year ago and got Earthlink cable modem. It has been so nice. Quick, no problems, no spam. I despised AOL at the time, but it was the only one I could get to work. I had MSN first and it was slow, too.

We have RR and had AOL before. You can keep the AOL access but there is a $14.95 fee. Or if you only want to access e-mails you can pay $4.95. If you tell them you are going to cancel they will give you 2 or 3 months for free.
