wow...how scary...we cruised the week that the US attacked, and war war declared, and boy were we nervous...Everyone told us to cancel, we had the option to cancel..I said no way am I going to live like that...If it happens then we are all together... :flower2:

WE found that due to the timing that security was even more pumped up.. WE had more security than I have ever seen...

Isn't it awful how these monsters work...I mean haven't they done enough damage....

How funny (well not really) but I was thinking of DCL when I read that article earlier today! I did't know about the little yellow boat or how DCL sends people down under so thanks for posting that info!

I've always wondered if some of the workers in white coveralls on decks are security people keeping an eye out.

We sailed the November after 9/11, and there were armed National Guardsmen in the terminal. I have a photo of them standing in front of the Chirstmas tree with the rifles. Quite a sign of the times! Even though the security measures are not as visible now, they are definitely there. I feel more secure on the ship than I do while flying; airport security doesn't really impress me.

inkkognito~ :scared1: With Rifles?! :crazy2:

Before 9/11, this info and sight would have scared the pants off of me. But, now...they actually seem to ease my mind. DD and I were in Paris recently, and visited the Eiffel Tower for a ride to the top. Only one leg was actually open, (Out of four) and I have photos of armed French Military walking the grounds with AK-47's! Frightening....but oddly, simultaneously soothing. It's still a little unnerving, and conjures up images I've seen from Berut, the West Bank and Columbia. For many citizens of other countries, these are common everyday sights. Yet, for us here in the US, we are used to a completely different standard. I even recall cruising on the Western Itinerary (MAGIC), pre-9/11, and gasping at the sight of serious-looking machine-gun clad militia men (one false move and you're done type!) posted at the dock in Cozumel! I even remarked to my DH/DD..."I'm so glad we do not have to live like this in the United States." How sad to realize 9/11 changed all of that forever. :worried: To think I ever took one minute of it for granted. FREEDOM, just isn't what it used to be. :confused3 :sad2:

this thread reminds me of an incident when we were on the May 23, 2004 sailing. When we were in Cozumel, we noticed commotion down on the dock Portside of the Magic. There were several Magic officers down there, along with some other individuals. 2 scuba divers went down......from what I heard (rumors on deck) was that someone (an individual scuba diver) dropped an air tank down there and wanted to go down after it. DCL wanted one of their scuba divers to go down with him. Of course, we never got a confirmation of what happened. We were a little concerned there for a minute.

We thought it was funny because one of the officers noticed all the attention they had drawn from our deck and waved and asked us how we were doing. hahaha!!!

Now looking at this makes me even more concerned.

Nice to know there truly ARE genuine DCL "Divers" aboard the ships...working to insure our safety. :goodvibes

Even in the midst of this situation...the DISNEY MAGIC shined through!! Love this one...thanks!! :sunny: :flower:

dreamflight99, I know what you mean. Although it seemed like the Twilight Zone to see those armed Guardsmen in the terminal, I really felt a lot better too. Since it was only a couple months after 9/11, I was glad to know that if anything happened, there were trained, armed professionals there to take care of it. Scary to think about...before 9/11, I could never have imagined taking comfort in armed military personnel, but then again, I never could have imagined such a horrible attack right on American soil.

Oh, Barb...you are so right. I discussed this news with DH (as I was a bit concerned), and he reassured me Disney will likewise take appropriate measures to "improve" security accordingly. Therefore, I will "welcome" the sight of military and police security at the Port of Los Angeles terminal in June. I'll be sure to come back here and post on the impact (if notable/visible) of this threat. We cruise in a couple months, and these things make me a bit nervous. :sad1:

I have also always presumed these horrific people would more than likely go after the DCL or the QM2, just for the notoriety they would receive, and the "impact" of such an act. Unbelieveable...to even think these kind of people are sitting around somewhere (possibly as I type) "plotting" to take the lives of innocent victims. How did we ever come to this? I just made the final payment on this cruise Monday, :goodvibes and am moving right along with all the plans/excursions, etc. I made the initial reservation last May, as soon as the news of the repositioning hit the Dis. I am fully resigned to enjoy every moment, and not let something like this dampen ANY of my joy/excitement! I LOVE cruising on the DCL, and would go every weekend if I could!! ::yes::

Therefore, life goes on. And I for one, in the true spirit of an American, will continue to live my life FREELY, and just as I have in the past! :)

TTFN...TGIF...DF99 :wave2:

When we read things like this, we need to remember and thank our Military. It is because of them and the Police that we can feel safe.

Ditto. ::yes:: :goodvibes Everyone involved in the "security" field is included in this gratitude. I am able to relax, and enjoy the cruise, due to all their efforts. Thanks for the gentle reminder.
