AOA - Would you upgrade?

We are currently booked in a Little Mermaid room for 2 nights prior to a Disney Cruise.

Our family of five consists of DH, me, DD11, DD9, and DS1 (at time of travel).

I'm worried about space, especially because we will need room for a crib or pack n play for DS.

I keep telling myself it's only for 2 nights though, so we should just suck it up....

It's $300 more to upgrade to the suite. WWYD?

I wouldn't spend the extra. For the amount of time we spend in the room it just wouldn't be worth it for 2 nights.

For a short trip like that, there's a chance you could get some pixie dust and be upgraded to a suite for free. Don't count on it, but there's always a chance. For a two night stay, I couldn't justify the extra expense. I have been called cheap once or twice, though.

I've never been in the Little Mermaid rooms personally.

I can tell you, though, that a friend of mine stayed in one with his family of four, which included him, his wife, and their two young children. And he said that it felt cramped, and that they wished they'd had more space.

OTOH, last month, our family of seven -- including five young children -- stayed in a family suite in the Cars wing, and we thought it was fantastic. We had plenty of room, and thought the accommodations were really nice.

For 2 nights, is it worth the upgrade? Hard to say. But as a general rule, I'd say definitely take the suites over the standard rooms.

HAHA! for me not really. UNLESS you wont be spending anytime in the parks and majority of your time at the resort. The suites have a microwave, fridge and sink. The LMR do have a fridge. Save the money for shopping or an excursion!

Two nights, no it's not worth it. I've stayed at POP much longer with 3 adults. Just thinking too ..... how big is your cabin on the cruise? Just thinking this room might be bigger than your cabin.

I wouldn't do it, especially if you are going to be in the parks during the day.

We just stayed in a Little Mermaid room, and it is bigger than your cabin on the cruise. I didn't try it, but the chairs look like you might be able to stack them one on top of the other. That would give you a little more room. Your kids are going to love the big blue pool...zero entry for the little one.

I hope you have a great trip...and super jealous you get a cruise too!

Having stayed in a nemo room, I would definitely do it if I had the money. They are amazing. But the comment above about the little mermaid room is probably bigger than your cruise room is most likely correct and maybe you need to adjust to the closeness.

If you can afford it, you wouldn't regret once you see the room.

This is a really good point. We've stayed in the Little Mermaid room and done 3 Disney cruises. LM will feel bigger than DCL. Suite to cabin might feel like a big change!

I thought about that comparison too. We will be staying AKL CL after the cruise and that will probably feel huge, lol.

I asked my DH what he thought, and after looking at the layout of the resort and reviewing rooms, he said we should get the suite....because Lion King, lol.

Yeah, we stayed at POP as a family of four when our girls were 3 and 5. I wouldn't say we felt cramped but the room was small. And now we have an extra person and he has a lot of STUFF, lol

Ours was only 214 sq feet! No wonder it felt small!

It's a tough call, but the LM rooms do not have much space, especially with all the "stuff" that goes along with a 1 yo. If you have the pack and play set up, you will have little floor space for even 2 or 3 of you to be up and on your feet at the same time.

I stayed in a Finding Nemo Suite this past spring and absolutely loved it. The space was great, the kitchenette, and the 2 bathrooms. I say go for it!

We stayed in a Finding Nemo suite for two nights this past trip. We are normally deluxe people, and we loved the space. On night one we had three adults and our 4 year old. Two bathrooms was LIFECHANGING. Then we moved to the Grand for 7 nights, and returned to AoA the night before we flew home. We'd originally booked a LM room bc my mom wasn't with us that night. We get out there after a long day at the parks and discover our magic bands won't open the door, so we hiked back to the main building. I'm 7 months pregnant, and I swear that walk felt like a marathon after a full day in the parks. The manager upgraded us for free to a Nemo suite right next to the main building. My husband got a peek at the LM room when he went with bell services to get our luggage, and he said the rooms were TINY. Fine for two adults and one child for one night, but that's it. We spend a lot of time in the parks, but still don't like to be falling over each other in the hotel.

So I guess I'm saying it's worth it! The Nemo suites are very well done, close to the main building, and the space is great. I also loved having a microwave.

I was able to upgrade to the Nemo Suite for $200 more (applied 30% mil discount to the Nemo room, LM room had no discount)!! I think it will be worth it and we will be nice and close to everything! Thanks for the input!

It will be completely worth it! We stayed in the cabins in April and having a bedroom to place DS in at night was amazing. We didn't have to tiptoe or whisper, and he slept really well in the quiet/dark bedroom. I brought a baby monitor from home to be able to listen to him without waking him. You're going to be thankful you upgraded!
