Day 8 – The One With The Farewells

Well so much for my staying up all night plan! I must’ve fallen asleep pretty early on as I don’t remember much after watching That 70’s Show. I slept right through until the cleaner decided to bang the heck out of my door at 8.30am! Hmm, I guess I was really tired then. I rang hubby and we chatted for awhile. I promised to ring him from the airport later and went off to shower. I finished my last few bits of packing and was out of the room by about 9.50. My case was very heavy – it’s not like I bought too much plus most of my dirty clothes were in my holdall that I’d packed inside the case on the way out. I made sure that my flight bag was nice and light for the journey, after struggling with it when I landed. After checking out (and picking myself off the floor after seeing my bill of $19.50 for phonecalls – 75 cents per call for connection when I phoned home with my phonecard and I didn’t realize I’d even used the phone that much!), but anyway I went to luggage assistance and dropped off my 2 bags, keeping my carry-on bag with me for last minute buying and my camera bag for photos – despite the fact that I’d lost all enthusiasm for taking photos after losing the last 100 or so! It was off to the food court which was absolutely heaving. I settled down at a table to eat my breakfast bagel and wrote some more report before going into the shop to buy some last minute goodies. After a little spending spree, I went back to the food court and drunk lots of soda while reading a magazine.

The morning went by quickly and next thing I knew it was 12.30pm. I made my way to luggage assistance to get my case and holdall. Just as well I did. I did notice an American Coach parked up but I thought no, it can’t be mine yet. I joined the queue then heard Freeman, Mrs Freeman. I turned round to find the coach driver from that very coach – yikes! I got my bags then headed to the coach. I was the only Disney resort pick-up. We then stopped once on the 192 and then 5 or 6 times on International Drive. An hour after boarding the coach, I was still on International Drive which was a bit infuriating but never mind. We arrived at Sanford Airport around 2.30. The queue for First Choice Airways was huge and about 40 minutes later, I was at the front and was given a nice roomy bulkhead seat by the clerk, excellent! They were very strict about hand luggage and were only allowing one piece per person – if people had excess, they were literally taking it off them!

The queue to get through security was really huge so that took another half hour to get through. I knew hubby was waiting for me to ring before going to bed so the first thing I did once I was through was find a phone. Sanford really needs more phones here – I only spotted two so by the time I’d finished talking to him, I had a huge queue of people behind me! I walked into the duty free shop to have a look round. I bought some cigarettes for hubby and a bottle of Gentleman Jack that my brother had requested as he’d never found it in the UK. I went to the news shop and bought a magazine and a bag of berry skittles. I sat down for 10 minutes and my flight was called. I was seated in 9A and I had so much room compared to the journey out. It was lovely. I had a young woman called Sarah sat next to me. She was flying back alone too. We had some nice chats during the flight. The flight was very smooth with only mild turbulence over New York and Boston which was due to thunderstorms. I’m normally very nervous but before leaving for this trip, I did a Fear of Flying course online which really helped me. What worked for me was that whenever the turbulence started, I’d close my eyes, take a deep breath and then say to myself wow, these roads are bumpy, they really need to sort them out. It really kept me calm and I have to say I’m really proud of the way I handled the flights.
Two hours in, it was time for dinner which was quite pleasant – no choice though so if you didn’t like beef it was tough luck! It was very soft though which I was pleased about. It was served with garlic potatoes and green beans. We also had a roll and butter, cheddar cheese and 2 crackers, a potato salad, strawberry cheesecake to finish and a yummy chocolate to have with your tea/coffee. The films shown were Peter Pan (the recent update), Welcome to Mooseport (which didn’t look terribly funny) and Cheaper By the Dozen. I listened to my iPod and read my book, I wasn’t really interested in the films. As I said, the flight was really smooth so it seemed to go quickly. About 5am we were served breakfast which was a ham and cheese croissant and a nutri-grain bar with tea or coffee. I had some tea but it wasn’t very nice. We landed at 6.30am, the flight time was about 8 hours. Finally off the plane, we then had to walk for 15 minutes to get to passport control and considering I was exhausted and hadn’t had any sleep, this was not appreciated!

Passport Control was easy, then it was off to luggage reclaim. The annoying thing here was that they put the luggage onto 2 belts, 5 and 6, instead of just the 1 so you basically had to walk between the 2 to find your luggage. Sarah had her luggage before me so we bid our farewells. By the time my bags appeared, most of the flight had gone through customs. I was so excited about seeing hubby. I had no problem going through Customs and I raced through, knowing hubby was on the other side. Sure enough, I saw hubby coming towards me – he spotted me through the crowd with my Minnie ears on my head. We were both very tearful and had a huge hug, then we made our way to the car park. On the way home we stopped off to see my mum for an hour. Amazingly, I didn’t fall asleep during the 2 hour journey back to Wales. I had a wonderful greeting from the dogs, especially Woody, she wouldn’t leave me alone for the first half hour and the other dog hardly got a look in. Woody loved the Disney Tails Frisbee I bought her (it lasted a total of 2 days before she ripped it apart lol) – I didn’t buy one for Dee as she doesn’t play with toys. We took some great pictures of the bandana on Dee, they’re funny.
