Day 4 – The One With All the Busyness

I’d forgotten to set the alarm this morning and I woke up at 8.30. Oops, one might say. I showered and dressed and walked to the bus stop. It was early magic hour at MGM Studios so I headed there. Big mistake! I’ve never ever seen so many people in all my life! I headed straight for Muppet Vision 3D and the queue was very deceptive. As you enter, the queue then turned to the right and you ended up walking the whole length of the building and back again to get past the turnstiles! Still, I made it in and the queue was about 15 minutes inside. I enjoyed the show, it’s such good fun. It looks a little dated compared to Mickey’s PhilharMagic but it’s still great. I wandered into the shop and found 2 soda pop fridge magnets that I didn’t have so bought them to add to my collection. I then realized that I hadn’t eaten any breakfast. I’ve read some reports and when people have said they’d forgotten to eat, I thought how can you forget to eat? Very easy to forget when you’re on your own, let me tell you that, as you just have yourself to think about.

I headed against the swarm back to the Backlot Express next to Star Tours and had a burger. The queues weren’t too bad here. I ate and tried to decide what I wanted to do. I ended up in Animation Courtyard and went to see One Man’s Dream. I love this film and I really think it’s worth seeing, especially to pay respect and thanks to the man who created all the magic we’ve come to love. After this, I headed to Voyage of the Little Mermaid. The queues were horrendous so I grabbed a fastpass. The time was for 2.50-3.25pm, and it was only 12.50. Hmm, maybe not then! The crowds were getting worse if that were possible and the heat was stifling so I gave up and went back to Pop Century. In the 3 hours I’d been at the park, I’d only managed 2 attractions and a bite to eat. It was here that I decided not to bother so much with the early magic hours, especially at this time of year. It’s good at Magic Kingdom because so much is open but with the other 3 parks, it’s not as good as only about 3-4 attractions are actually open. So I changed my plans for Epcot the next day and was going to decide where to go when I woke up. Back at my room, I took a much needed rest.

I woke up at 6pm, showered again and decided to head for Epcot. Again, I was the only one on the bus – talk about personal service! Once through the gates, I headed for the Leave a Legacy section to find our tile. Sure enough, there it was so I took a few photos for hubby. It was 6.30pm and most of Future World would be shut at 7pm. The queue was huge for Spaceship Earth so I carried on. I stopped at Innoventions to send a postcard to hubby and my mum.

As I walked up to the Fountain of Nations, it started up so I watched it before continuing on to World Showcase.

I walked through Canada and discovered that Off Kilter weren’t playing tonight, and I’d really been looking forward to seeing them. Oh well, I’d just have to come back. On to the UK then, where I decided to grab some fish and chips for dinner from the kiosk. Very yummy and very similar to what we can get back home, except for the size of the fish but the 2 pieces you get is more than ample. I then walked through a few shops and I bought a Welsh flag pin and a UK flag antenna topper. Just as I walked out of the shop, the British Invasion started their set so I went to listen. I sat down and sang along – I love these guys. Once they finished their 15 minute set, I carried on walking, having a look around. The last and only time I’d walked around World Showcase it had been very dark so I hadn’t really taken anything in.

On my list of food to try was some baklava from the Tangerine Café in Morocco, as I hadn’t eaten any for years. My mum was born in Yugoslavia and I have fond memories of my Nan making huge trays of baklava with walnuts in. I was pleased to see that among all the different types of baklava they had the exact type my Nan used to make. I sat outside to eat it and I enjoyed every mouthful, it was delicious. I carried on walking and it was about 8.20pm by the time I arrived in Italy. I grabbed a drink and found a great spot for Illuminations. Time passed quickly. I was saddened to hear that they’ve changed the pre-Illuminations music. This was a bit more dancy compared to what I’d heard before, although it did improve a little but it wasn’t what I’d been expecting to hear. I love it when the man starts talking and ends his speech with the little “poof” and all the fires go out – fantastic!

Illuminations is really wonderful and very powerful, and even though I love Wishes, I much prefer Illuminations. As usual, I got very teary-eyed hearing We Go On and at the end, I made my way with everyone else to the exit and the bus stops. The queue for Pop Century was huge so I sat and waited. I managed to get on the third bus so it wasn’t too bad, although I still had to stand. I like the way they co-ordinate the buses when the parks shut – as one bus pulls away, another arrives. 10 minutes later, I was heading back to my room to change. I was starving to I went to the food court and treated myself to a pizza with onions, sausage, mushrooms and pepperoni on it. That took 15 minutes so I sat drinking refills. I took the pizza back to my room and watched an hour of one of my favourite shows – That 70’s Show on WB18, I love this show so I was really chuffed to see it was still on. It was during our last trip that I got into it. By 1am, it was time to ring hubby as I knew he’d be getting up for work. We spoke for 20 minutes then it was time for bed. I lay there for a few minutes, legs and feet throbbing before eventually falling asleep.
