Day 7 - Wednesday 29th
Andy had to wake me up again this morning and it was about 8.30. We had a lazy start to the day just relaxing in the room and headed down to the food court for breakfast about 9.30. Andy had the breakfast platter which was omelette, potatoes and biscuit and I had a 7 seeded bagel with cream cheese, a side of sausage and a fruit cup full of grapes and melon. Mmm!
We left for Walmart and arrived about 10.30. This time we paid a visit to the store on Sandlake Road instead of the 192. We got some more goodies including a Halloween t-shirt for Andy, Garfield pyjamas and a top for me, more camcorder tapes, 2 CDs and more beer and pop. We were finished by about midday and we headed for Festival Bay so Andy could change some shorts hed bought that were just that little bit too small (Andys convinced that the US sizes are smaller than UK, thats what hes trying to tell himself anyways!). I waited in the car for him as it was boiling hot out and I wanted to stay in the air con. He was only about 5 minutes. Unfortunately, they didnt have any other sizes so he had to get his money back which is a shame because they were really nice shorts.
It was time for lunch and we were getting peckish. Andy didnt fancy a burger so no Fuddruckers today. Instead, we headed for Chilis (oh what a surprise ..NOT!). We had our usual starter, Andy went for the chicken ranch sandwich again and I had the mushroom swiss burger. Mmm mmm, delicious! It was quite packed for lunch, although it was gone 1pm by this time.
After Chilis, we headed back to the hotel. I was falling asleep on the way back so it was time for a snooze. I managed about 2 and a half hours and Andy had to wake me. We had a PS at the Garden Grill for 6.10pm and I didnt want to get up. I think all the activity of the past week has finally caught up with me. I was a bit of a grumpy guts when I woke up, so much so that Andy made me have a shower to wake me up as all I wanted to do was go back to sleep. I was still a bit grumpy after my shower but I got dressed and ready to go out. Again, I fell asleep during the drive to Epcot and was a grumpy guts when Andy woke me up when we arrived. Andy offered to take me back to the hotel as I was obviously exhausted but I wanted to carry on. We managed to park quite near to the front - just as well as there was no tram to take us to the front entrance!
Again, my pass wouldnt work but they let me in anyway. We walked straight through to the Land for our PS at the Garden Grill.
We checked in and mentioned that we were supposed to be having the rehitching ceremony and there didnt seem to be a problem with that. We were shown to our table. The Garden Grill is really different in that it revolves, very slowly but its noticeable. You are surrounded by parts of the ride from Living With the Land which was really fun. Most of the seating is in booths. We werent sure what to expect. Our server Luis was very good and he soon brought us our drinks. First, he brought us a huge bowl of salad with ranch dressing on it, the salad being from their own greenhouses. The salad was made of lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and red onions.
We found a Mickey shaped piece of cucumber which made us giggle.
We were then brought freshly baked bread with whipped butter.
After wed munched on some salad we were brought our skillet, which is basically a big metal dish with a handle. It was full of flank steak, pork with pineapple sauce, fried fish in breadcrumbs, cornbread stuffing, roast potatoes, red cabbage similar to sauerkraut and fresh vegetables. It was all delicious, especially the cornbread stuffing. I was a bit concerned as there was no chicken on offer and Andy only eats chicken but thankfully he loved the pork so I let him have most of it and I had the steak which tasted divine. During dinner we had visits from Chip and Dale, Mickey Mouse and Pluto.
The character interaction was really great and the characters were very playful.
We polished off our skillet and asked for some more flank steak and pork. We were brought a nice pile of each which we finished. The food was really great. We were then brought dessert which was a skillet full of apple cobbler with the biggest scoop of ice cream that Ive ever seen on top of it. The crumble topping had chopped nuts in it which was really nice. The cobbler was so tasty.
We would both heartily recommend dinner at the Garden Grill. It really is an experience, especially with the characters too.
Once dinner was over and wed paid, I got up to visit the girls room to powder my nose. While I was gone, Pluto decided to visit and he noticed I wasnt there. Apparently he went hunting for me, then sat down tapping his paw impatiently. He then grabbed a piece of paper and began writing his name with a heart round it and he was finishing it off just as I returned. He jumped up, gave me a big hug and posed for another photo. I think he took a shining to me
While Id been gone, Andy had asked a passing CM about our rehitching ceremony and he was told that she didnt think they did them anymore as someone had got upset during one? She said there might be a cake in the kitchen we could have but we hadnt gone for the cake. She disappeared to find out what was happening and she never came back.
We were about to leave when Luis our server came back and asked if it was our anniversary. We said it was and he then asked how long wed been married. He disappeared but came straight back with a cake, a certificate and Mickey and Chip as witnesses.
He announced to the restaurant that it was our 2nd wedding anniversary and every one clapped. We were told to kiss and another CM took our picture.
It was very sweet and the photos came out really well.
Chip pointed to our cake and clapped his hands before giving us both another hug. Andy was a little miffed that wed had to ask about the ceremony but at least we got one. We were brought dishes to try our cake, which was huge. It was on a china plate so Im not sure if we were allowed to take it or not. As it happened, we left it behind as we dont have a fridge and it probably would have gone off.
We sampled a few slices of cake (bearing in mind that we were still full from our meal!) and it was the most gorgeous cake that weve ever eaten. I do wish we couldve taken it back with us but wed have totally pigged out on it.
We left the Garden Grill and decided against staying for Illuminations as we were both tired. On the way back to the entrance we stopped at Guest Relations so I could sort my annual pass out. I was given a new card (this time with Mickey on it). We left Epcot and Andy walked ahead to get the car. No trams were running yet so I waited for him near the entrance and he picked me up. We had a wonderful afternoon at Epcot and wed both recommend the Garden Grill as the food was yummy.
Back at Pop, we decided to have a few drinks in the bar as it was open. Unfortunately it wasnt Dolly working but the misery guts who had served us in January (name hidden to protect misery gutss identity!). Andy went to the room to pick up the laptop. As it was me on my own waiting for hubby, he wouldnt serve me 2 drinks, only one? What a lot of crap! Dolly had never commented on this, she'd always let us have 2 drinks even if only one of us was about! I bought my strawberry daiquiri which was delicious and Andy showed up to find me with a drink and none for him. I pointed to misery guts and said loudly he wouldnt let me buy 2 drinks. Andy shook his head and went to the bar. Jeez, this guy really could do with some of the Disney spirit!!
A second strawberry daiquiri later and I was feeling a bit woohooo - I only noticed this when I got up to visit the little girls room again. We stayed until about 10.30 and headed back to the room. We watched an hour of That 70s Show and then it was time for bed.
coming up: resort hopping and lunch at Beaches & Cream
