DS got a DS game he already owns. No receipt....
Is there anywhere that will exchange for another game? It is in pkg & it is Mario Kart, so still a very current title.

Ive had issues with duplicates WITH a reciept. You may find a walmart that will give you a gift card for it, if the game itself is still in the celophane wrapper.

I have never had an issue with Walmart. As long as they sell it then there shouldn't be a problem, they will issue a store credit.

We've also been able to exchange unopened items without a receipt at Walmart for store credit (or even value exchange -- exchanged a movie for another movie that cost the same) without any problems.

Wal-mart is the best about not having a receipt. However, being right after Christmas, you might have to stand in line at Customer Service for a really long time. Target also will do a no-receipt return using your driver's license. You get a $70 max per calendar year, but a DS game is less than that so you should have no problem. Plus, Target's games are usually more expensive, so your store credit will be slightly higher than Wal-Mart's.

Depends on where it came from really. If it was ordered online, you may not be able to return it to a store. (My sister ordered my parents the first season of Hero's a couple years ago online...when we tried to take it to Target, they wouldn't take it.) If you're comfortable, talk to the person who gave him the game to see where it was purchased. All else fails, take it to Walmart as others have said.

Gamestop. I know they will take it and give you credit or exchange for limited time after Christmas. If you have one near you, give them a call and ask. I know I brought in a game right before Christmas my DD got for her birthday and I was able to exchange it for something else.

Wal-mart will allow you 3 exchanges or refunds per year without a receipt. They keep track. Once you've returned 3 items, you must have a receipt after that.

will it be a trade in value or a "new' value? my son got 2 games that he has duplicates of, but I don't want to trade that in for $8-10. They are both unopened still in celophane..

My experience with GameStop is they will not allow you to trade in/sell any new video games. It is their way to prevent thieves from hocking the goods. I've tried to trade in games that I bought my DH and he's never played. My only option at GameStop "unofficially" was to leave the store, remove the wrapping and bring it back for trade in. You will not get anywhere near the new value from them.

Try to return it or exchange it.

I've returned unopened games and have gotten full price credit towards a new game at Gamestop.

I just returned a DS game to WalMart today without any trouble. They gave me full credit and we went and bought a new game

I also had no problems and really the no questions asked experience yesterday returning both a ds game and a jenga game at WalMart. Got a gift card and picked up a new Wii game instead.:thumbsup2

Like someone else mentioned, Gamestop only offers full-price credit for a limited time around Christmas. If you want to be guaranteed full credit, or you're only planning on trading for a different title, I'd skip Gamestop and go to Wal-Mart or Target, unless you know for sure that Gamestop has what you want. In which case, I'd ask exactly how much you're going to get before you go through with the deal.
