Thanks everyone for all the replies - keep them coming if anyone has more ideas or would like to share what you've done. Cell phones are getting so expensive that any way of saving money on them is helpful!
Our middle daughter's phone was not holding a charge at all - it would die in about 30 minutes after being fully charged, so we had to do something pretty quickly. That was our problem in my opinion. We ended up just getting her phone through the next plan and did the next 18 (and it will be ours after 24 payments). If we had more time, we could have saved some by buying one off ebay - but when you are getting the newest phones, you really don't save that much by doing that anyway.
For the rest of us (and my mom who is on our plan), we are going to plan ahead and start looking for a phone that we can buy off of ebay or through our local facebook trader page. Our oldest daughter will probably want the newest phone as well, but the rest of us are fine with last year's model which will save some right there.
Anyway, I just wanted to share what we ended up doing and thank everyone for their input. I am also going to look into the pay as you go plans. Our problem with switching to those is that the kids use too much data. Although we don't have the unlimited, we did get in on the double your data, so we have 30 gb, and we use most of it each month, so I'm not sure how that works on the pay as you go plans.
I also really enjoyed / learned a lot from the link posted above about all the new pricing on cell phone plans. I personally do not like how they've changed, but it is what it is I suppose. We just have to learn to play their game (which I learned a lesson on this purchase).
