Anything I can do for nausea caused by antibiotics?

Saltines or toast (plain) helps me.

The last time I was on antibiotics it was a kind I hadn't taken before.

I was supposed to not eat or drink (other than water) 3 hrs before AND 3 hrs after. It was things in food that was the problem..it actually called out iron, zinc, calcium, etc...basically what any food is likely to have.

It did say that it could cause nausea but that's usually a warning on a lot of meds and I don't seem to be affected by others..well this one did for me. 20 mins after taking the first pill I got sick..I thought well maybe it's just me being sick in general...nope the next time I was due for a pill I got sick again within 20-30 mins.

The label did say I could have a little bit to eat if it upset my stomach. I knew too much would counteract the antibiotic so I stuck with just a few saltines (because they had iron in them so I couldn't eat a whole lot). Worked like a charm and appearantly taking it on an empty stomach won't work for me even though that's what the instructions want you to do.

On a side note I'm never taking that antibiotic again it was just too restrictive.

Yikes! That is awful, I hope you only had to take them once a day! I'd starve to death. :(

OP, milk and a cracker or two usually makes a good buffer for me. I hate taking antibiotics, always make me sick. I have to take pain meds with milk or something in my stomach, or I will get sick. Horrible.

Ginger helps with nausea.

Yes i saw that this is a zombie thread but as i had already invested time in reading the damn thing i was going to reply ;)

Triple play.

And I will resurrect this thread once more...

I’m currently battling horrendous stomach pain and nausea. Will Dramamine and GingerAle work? I read another person did this. I’m desperate for some relief! Help!

I wouldn't do the dramamine, but ginger ale is a good start.

Also soda crackers. Dry toast. Gas pills (simethicone). I also use a heating pad on my stomach when nauseous.

Is this due to antibiotics? If so, why not contact your doctor abut changing the prescription?

I’m currently doing the heating pad as we speak. I love ginger ale...just have to make my boyfriend move his butt to get me some:rotfl2:

Any other suggestions?

Regular Coke and potato chips. They are my go to when my stomach is upset. Coke syrup used to be sold as a nausea remedy (not sure if it still is).

Why not just start a new thread? I had bad stomach pain and nausea in November, had a low grade fever, pain radiated to my right side... had my appendix removed less than 24 hours after the pain started.

Large doses of vitamin B6 can help with nausea, but it takes a couple days for the levels to build up in your body. I think I was prescribed 1 B6 pill in the morning, and one in the evening. If you can get a doctor to prescribe it for you, Zofran is absolutely amazing!
