Anyone's cell phone turn off on it's own?

We just returned from the Verizon store, the clerk was telling us how they updated some models because the battery was the back of the phone...so if the phone was "squeezed" in any way (included up against a pocket, in a purse pocket, etc) the phone would turn itself off. Very odd, but we will steer clear of those!

I'd call and ask for a replacement, especially with it being so close to the 3 months.

Yep, had this problem maybe a year or better ago. The contacts between the battery and the phone had a little pocket fuzz on them. Cleaned them with a pencil eraser and not a problem since.

This is a good suggestion. Worth a try.

Also, OP, you didn't mention the model phone. I have the LG Env Touch and it was doing this every so often too (a pain as it will cause all settings to revert back to factory each time.) With MY phone, the issue is as others have noted: the battery is just the tiniest bit loose, not enough to notice, but when pressure is applied the wrong way the connection to at least one of the battery terminals is broken.

The fix for MY phone is very easy and the phone store should have a small part to do this: insert a tiny sliver of standard paper doubled over on itself between the phone and the end of the battery opposite to the terminals. It tightens up the connections. Getting the paper into place is tricky, but I haven't had the issue in the 3 months since I did this.

WHen mine did that, it was because the cell phone pocket on my purse had a magnet. That magnet apparently messed with the phone. Now my current purse also has a magnet, but it's a much weaker one and my phone hasn't ever shut off on me.

Is she putting it near a magnet, even just to slide it into her purse?

Hubby discovered this problem with his Blackberry. Not b/c of a purse, but another magnet.

I have/had this problem w/ my EnV3 also. I took it to the store, the guy messed w/ the battery, then reset the phone. That was around March/April and it's just started doing it again. Very annoying as it's my only phone. Can't upgrade until Feb/March.

My husband has the Samsung Intensity through Verizon, and this started happening. I did some looking online and it sounds like a common problem. He takes the battery out and puts it back in. Don't have a good solution.

If your phone is less then a year you should have a warranty of some kind. DBF and I have LG EnV3's and his kept turning off, turned out the battery wasn't secure in the phone so they exchanged both our phones, we'd had them for about 6-8 months and it was no problem to trade them, we even asked and were told that the 1 year warranty starts over when you exchange them. We don't carry insurance on our phones, we always have extras so if one of them breaks we can just activate the old one instead.

I'll have to look into this. Sounds like I might need it given all the issues people have with the EnV's. (I should have gotten a droid!)
