DD's phone is doing that for a few days now. She says she's hasn't dropped it recently. Wondering if this is an easy fix or something that we have to send the phone in for replacement (we have insurance)
I really don't want to have to pay the $50 deductible though. Do you think it could be the battery? Although her phone is only 3 months old.

Both DD and her boyfriend's phones randomly turn off. She took hers to Verizon in July and they replaced it for free. Her boyfriend has an older phone that he is going to have activated again.

Yes, occasionally my Samsung does that...it's not that old- maybe a year- I just turn it back on...does it prob 2 times a week.

I had that happen with a phone a few months back. I had only had the phone for 2 months. We took it to the local store and they couldn't figure it out, told us that we would have to call our provider (ATT). I called them, on DH's phone, explained everything to them, they had me do a whole bunch of stuff, and it continued to happen. It was replaced for free because it had a 1 year warranty. I had to pay $12 for expedited shipping, I do not have a home phone. They did explain over the phone that if it was water damage or user fault, then I would have to pay a $150 fee, which is stupid because the phone only cost $80. I knew it hadn't been dropped and there wasn't water damage, so it wasn't something that concerned me. Got my phone, sent the old one back in (they sent me everything to send it back in), was charged the $12 and that's it. I haven't had any problems with the new phone, and DH has the same phone, he hasn't had any issues either.

I should mention, my phone had been turned on, and then a few hours later I realized it was off. Didn't think anything of it, turned it back on. A few hours later, again, I noticed it was off. Turned it back on, full battery, plugged it in just in case, it said full battery, and 5 minutes later I noticed a beep. the phone had turned off. At most, it would stay on for 15 minutes. It continued to do this every single time I turned it on for the next 48 hours.

Mine has been doing that too..I have Sprint..I will have to check out the battery..thx guys

I called our provider (AT&T) and a battery will be $29.99 or ($19.99 if you have a discount available) so it's still cheaper than the $50 deductible with insurance.

Yep, had this problem maybe a year or better ago. The contacts between the battery and the phone had a little pocket fuzz on them. Cleaned them with a pencil eraser and not a problem since.

If you have only had the phone 3 months, it is covered under the manufacturer's warranty, so your carrier should replace it at no charge. Call them and ask, you might be in for a pleasant surprise! :)

My old one started doing this as well as randomly calling people on my phone list. It turned out that my 3g phone got messed up when Sprint's system went to 4g. Good thing I was due for an upgrade anyway.

WHen mine did that, it was because the cell phone pocket on my purse had a magnet. That magnet apparently messed with the phone. Now my current purse also has a magnet, but it's a much weaker one and my phone hasn't ever shut off on me.

Is she putting it near a magnet, even just to slide it into her purse?

If it is only three months old it should be a warranty issue and not an insurance issue. Call your provider and get it replaced under mfg warranty. It should cost you nothing this way.

It's a refurbished phone but it is like brand new so maybe they used an old battery:confused3 The refurbished ones only have a 3 month warranty and we just passed that.

Mines been doing that too. It's a new phone. Got it in July. It's a Samsung. It's annoying because we got this new phone because my old phone wouldn't hold a charge. They're not fancy phones by any means either.

DD14's old phone did that alot. She had the EnV3 and it would turn on and off periodically, then it would do it more frequently or it would freeze and the screen would turn white and finally it began to call people on her contact list. We had the phone replaced twice by Verizon (we had insurance on it so they gave a refurb phone instead of a new one). We were told by Verizon both times that it was a software problem. We finally got DD a new phone in June (samsung reality) and haven't had any problems so far.
