We are flying them the end of March and the thought of their troubles crossed my mind today. Should we be overly concerned about them not being around at that time? Or am I needlessly worrying??

They will be around..... there is no talk of them disappearing any time soon here in Minnesota.

My mom is a TA and she said not to worry. I was concerned when we flew with them in Dec. but we had no problems. She also said that many airlines continue to fly while reorganizing their company.

No, I don't think you should worry. We flew out last year 2 weeks after the mechanics strike started (still going on BTW) & we had NO problems whatsoever. I plan on flying w/them again this September.

I posted on this last week, I think. I had just found out about the possible strike and the rumor that a strike would kill the whole airline. Of course this was 4 days after I bought the tickets for our July trip. I was reassured by my bank that I could get the $ back from my Visa if that happens, but of course that alone wouldn't get me to Florida. The announement by the pilots is supposed to be Feb. 16, so we don't have long to wait for info!

I am holding off buying my tickets on NWA until the whole Pilot strike thing is settled. One of my co-workers DW is a FA on NWA and feels they are gearing up for a strike.

Naturally it has to be Feb. 16, since I'm scheduled to fly out on Feb. 17. I'm trying not to worry about it.

Keep an eye on your flights. I just happened to look at our flight out of Detroit in May. It was cancelled. NW put us on another flight, but the plane was taking off before our connecting flight from WI landed in Detroit. :sad2:

We are flying NW to the Netherlands in early April. My only concern would be a pilot's strike, but we'll get there somehow!

So in an event of a strike what exactly does happen to those of us who have purchased our tickets with NWA? I purchased our tickets for our March 7th trip way back in May 2005 knowing that the airfare wouldn't get any cheaper and I never would of imagined that I would have to worry about a strike and the airline actually not flying. If they do strike what are the chances that all of the flights would be cancelled? Also would I get a refund for the tickets I purchased? I didn't even think to buy insurance, I am very upset by this whole business, we live in an area that doesn't have much in the way of airlines so if NWA is not up and running it is really going to be hard to find airfare to Orlando. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Don't worry about the strike vote. Thats all it is a vote. Even if the vote to strike they can't yet. Until the national mediation board says there is an impass they are not allowed to strike. The 2 side haven't even involved the board yet. And even after they do there is the 30 day coolng off wait that they have to have before a strike.
So at the earlist it would be early to mid summer before anything would happen.

That is not the case. The bankruptcy judge is to rule on NWA's request to void the pilot's collective bargaining agreement as early as next week. If this happens the pilots claim they can strike at anytime. The strike vote is to be announced on Feb. 28. NWA stated they will file to get an injunction to keep the pilots from striking, as they believe this would be an illegal work stoppage.

Actually, the strike voting starts next week and votes will be counted on Feb. 28.

Here is a link to the story in our Detroit News:

Oh Pinnie, thanks for that news. Somehow I thought that if the judge ruled a certain way on Feb. 16, then the pilots could strike immediately. I'm glad I can relax about my upcoming trip.

Of course, I'm scheduled to fly with NWA again in April. But hopefully things will be settled without any strike at all.

Heres an interesting link to read. Its about what United has tried and what every airline will try I'm sure.

Okay, I am not sure I understand this whole strike business, if the vote on 2/16 is for a strike then does the strike go into effect right away? Or does it take a few weeks or months to actually get everything organized? This whole strike business has me stressing out and I am wondering if I should think about looking into alternative airfare even though it will cost me over a 1000.00 for new airfare. I do not want to have to cancel this trip, I have looked forward to it for two years now and the thought of having it cancelled due to an airline strike is making me ill. I have to much money already invested into this trip.

Right now a threated strike is the only bargioning chip the pilot's have. If they were to follow through with it the whole airline would be no more and noone has a job anymore there. So a strike is the last thing anyone with NWA wants both the suits and the employees.
