Anyone Who Watched the Travel Channel's Resort Shows...

I've seen the shows before, and the Great Hotels episode on GF convinced me that I wouldn't enjoy staying there. I had been in the lobby and one of the restaurants, and I wasn't just blown away. With the show and seeing the inside of the room, I was completely turned off. The GF isn't for me, and the Great Hotels episode convinced me of that!

I was actually turned off by the wallpaper in that GF room she was in at first. It seemed to have a suffocating effect, to me.

I have heard several times that supposedly they will never do a Great Hotels episode on the Poly, since it's too much like staying in Hawaii, and they cover the real hotels there. :confused3

I do love all of those episodes, and agree that it would be nice to see more of the regular rooms - although that show will likely be the only way, sans lottery, that I'll ever be able to see the inside of those suites! :rotfl: And they could stand a little updating in the room decor dept. - as of now, AKL is the only one whose rooms still look like that; the GF, WL, and BC/YC have all been through soft goods upgrades since then. (And thank goodness, too - that BC bedspread of old is hideous - reminds me of a Golden Girls episode! :scared: )

We stay at the BC, and I love the GF we used to stay there when I was a kid, but as an adult, I am not wild about the room decor, but I think the resort itself is lovely.

WL - I live in Southern Illinois and well I think the WL is so cool but we have a Lodge here that is very similar to that and it just reminds me of that so I stay a way from it. My husband and I used to say well maybe if we went in the winter...I am not sure, maybe when we have kids...

AKL - I think is cool but so far away, that is why I like the BC so central and just a walk to Epcot!!!

Good idea!

To save a little more money, I'll put on a character costume, and walk my DD down the aisle. Have your DH do the same and it's practically paid for. I live in Kentucky, and could probably scrounge up some horses and some sort of carriage for the procession. Well, that might be slightly less magical than what the Travel Channel showed. :rotfl2:

My DD's both love that guy from HSM. I just hope he's behaving himself better off-camera than his female co-star. :sad2:

I know: :offtopic:

:flower3:

True!!!:scared1:

I must chime in that I also thought the GF wallpaper was yucky but i loved the Alice in Wonderland and White Rabbit on the Bedspread it was cute!!:flower3:

For those that did not care for the wallpaper at the Grand Floridian, these shows are dated and the rooms have been update and all that you have seen is now or soon to be gone as to room decor.

i watched them too, my DBF was the one who saw it was on. he though it was exetremely funny because it was about disney which he knew I would want to watch it but it had Samantha as the host who he knows I can not stand (just something about her rubs me wrong). I beared with it though because it was about Disney. It made me want to stay at the WL not so much any of the others besides maybe the Beach Club. I would love to see a show that host the other non-deluxe reosorts.

I think it is all a matter of taste. We hated BC but loved YC and BW go figure, same area, sister resorts but a huge difference. We love AKL and most people dont like it. This year we are trying your favorite the WL so I hope we love this hotel also. AKL with its non sharing buses have had us hooked but the rooms no longer hold 5 so we had to change to WL deluxe room. I hope we love this resort too. You will never know until you try it.;)

They need to send Samantha back and update these shows!!! I did enjoy the AKL episode....they did not show the pool area, or did I miss that? DD loved that they showed the Sunrise Safari!

I watched all the shows Sunday except GF, missed that one. We are booked at AKL next June and the show just made me look forward to it more. I taped the show so my kids could watch it as they were not home at the time. They were excited before and are more so now. I also wish she had shown more of the regular rooms although it was interesting to see the suite.

They stopped shooting "Great Hotels" a few years ago. Samantha has been doing shows in Latin America this season called Passport to Latin America and it's been great. I've always loved watching her and it's given me new places to travel to.

As much as I love the Wilderness Lodge, I don't think I have a #1 Disney resort hotel, I like different ones for different reasons and thats why we stay someplace different each time.
