Anyone Who Watched the Travel Channel's Resort Shows...

BTW I don't understand why they don't have a Polynesian Great Hotels episode.

I totally agree with you there. I finally got my DH to agree to a weeks stay at the Poly on our next trip (not til 3 years), but we are also planning on doing the whole kit and kaboodle and staying Concierge level....this is going to be our Dream Vacation. Everytime a Disney hotel show comes on, I get so excited to see it, but then get kindof bummed when they don't even touch on the Poly. I mean come on, I would think that they could touch on both the CR and the POLY since those were Disney's original resorts AND they both have gotten a wonderful makeover.

I wonder if they don't have a Poly episode because it's one of the original (meaning old) resorts at WDW. All the other resorts featured were built in the 1980's or later, while the Poly pretty much came with MK when it opened.

But I'd love to see one on the Poly, especially with the refurbished rooms, etc.

I was suprised that there were no Poly or Contemporary shows, both of them are monorail hotels and therefore still, despite age the most coveted hotels. Maybe they wanted to focus on the relatively new ones thinking more than likely people haven't stayed there yet...I dunno, just a theory:goodvibes

Those shows made me more depressed than ever that we cannot afford deluxe resorts. We ate at Whispering Canyon when we were at Disney and loved everything about the Wilderness Lodge. The vibe was so alive and it just grabbed us, you know? We could maybe, maybe pinch out a deluxe if we were really careful, but we have three kids which means we'd have to go with a deluxe room at WL or AKL and that takes out any chance right there. Poor us. Why oh why can't they sleep five in a standard room like the other deluxes? It's a conspiracy against bigger families, I tell you! A conspiracy! ;)

My almost 8 YO DD was watching the Grand Floridian show with me yesterday. When they got to the part about the wedding chapel services, she asked if they could have characters there while you got married. :)

I told her I didn't know for sure, but I guess if you have the $$$ to pay for it, it could happen.

We picked BC partly on this show... it just looks sooo awesome and relaxing... and really like a resort... we are so excited... plus there are so many options so close to the hotel with epcot, and boardwalk....

Don't feel bad, we are a family of 2 (1 adult, 1 child) and I have to pay for "double occupancy" so I feel the crunch too in a different way.

And the only reason we are staying at the Poly this time is because I inherited money from my ex-in-laws recently and this is a special trip for my DD9 in rememberance of her grandparents. Otherwise, we'd never be able to afford to stay at a deluxe for an entire week! So I feel your pain, it's hard to see others who can so freely enjoy the Nice resorts.

Yes, you can "rent" characters. I also like that you can go to the chapel in Cinderella's coach too. Anything for a price.

Tell your daughter that you can have the characters at your wedding, it does cost extra (of course). i was married at WL back in 1998 and it was an option, although we didn't go for it.:bride: :groom:

No my opinion of them did not change. We have been lucky enough to stay at all the Disney resorts from All Star to the Grand Floridian and we love them all. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the tip, but I think I'll be keeping that information very, very quiet for now. ;)

A) The thought of me not being the only man in my little princess' life makes me extremely :sad1:
B) Being a princess, her tastes tend to run to the high side. Better to keep costs to a minimum.

I asked her if she wanted to get married at GF someday, and she said yes. I then asked her who she'd be marrying, and she said she didn't know yet. :)

I told her while she's figuring it all out, I'll start a savings account for that GF wedding, and she could contribute the money toward it. :rotfl2:

watched all the disney shows on the travel channel yesterday too

actually right now i'm re-watching the tape with Samantha Brown and the "Great Hotels" segment

always fun to see these shows

just wish the Travel Channel would send Samantha back to Disney with a new show, maybe "Great Fun Hotels" (or something like that)

and she could stay at the Pop Century, maybe the Contemporary, the Boardwalk - places that didn't make the "Great Hotels" cut

My DD, age 3, and I sat down and watched all four resort shows -- AKL, GF, BC, and WL.

The resort that my daughter absolutely fell in love with was the Grand Floridian! (Apparently she has expensive taste.) She loved the Disney dessert they had on the table at check-in, loved the glass coach, loved the rooms and the lobby -- was basically oohing and aahing over everything.

I personally was like a kid in a candy store -- I loved every single one of the hotels. I would say I came away with a more favorable impression of the Beach Club than I had before -- the pool looks amazing for the kids!

I think they'll probably do a Great Hotels show on every single resort they have. Making the "cut" on that show is probably dependent more on the amount of money the Travel Channel gets for advertising the property than on any perceived "greatness" of the resort. I think Disney could build a resort called The Rip Roarin' Russian Gulag, and it would eventually get featured on a Travel Channel show, simply because it is Disney, and Travel Channel seems to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Disney lately. I don't think I've ever heard a cross word said about Disney on any of those Travel Channel shows.

Don't worry, I think they'll cover all the resorts someday, even the Rip Roarin' Russian Gulag. ;)

You will enjoy the Beach Club! And the Walkway to Epcot is so covenient. In a few minutes you'll cross through the International Gateway and enter the World Showcase. And the Beach Club is particularly convenient during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival!

We saw the Beach Club program, too, and it got us psyched for our upcoming return visit.

All the best.

Maybe we could get a two for one deal someday...my DD who is 7 also says she'd like a GF wedding, however sh e already has the groom set...Zac Efron (Troy from High School Musical). I told her since he works for Disney maybe we could get a discount on the wedding.:lmao:

I would definetly says that it definetly made a very good impression on our family. We have always been of the ilk that we stay at one of the value resort so we can have more money to eat and shop at the parks. But next time we go to WDW:grouphug: we are going to stay in one of the resort they discussed on the travel the only hard part is deciding which one to stay in. I believe right now it is a tie between the Beach Club and the Wilderness lodge. I would definelty like stay at the grand floridian for like a honeymoon or something ya know!

Good idea!

To save a little more money, I'll put on a character costume, and walk my DD down the aisle. Have your DH do the same and it's practically paid for. I live in Kentucky, and could probably scrounge up some horses and some sort of carriage for the procession. Well, that might be slightly less magical than what the Travel Channel showed. :rotfl2:

My DD's both love that guy from HSM. I just hope he's behaving himself better off-camera than his female co-star. :sad2:

I know: :offtopic:

:flower3:

I've seen the shows before, and the Great Hotels episode on GF convinced me that I wouldn't enjoy staying there. I had been in the lobby and one of the restaurants, and I wasn't just blown away. With the show and seeing the inside of the room, I was completely turned off. The GF isn't for me, and the Great Hotels episode convinced me of that!
