Can you cut a shape out of the exact same spot on multiple sheets of 8 1/2 x 11 paper? I'm making wedding programs and need to cut the same oval from 100 sheets of paper. I'd love to own a Cricut, so I'm hoping this is a good excuse to buy one!!!

I think you can. What you would need to do is use the center cut feature. You move the blade with the arrows to the center of the spot you want to cut. The center of the oval. Make note of the markings, like 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches (you'll need those for the next sheet of paper).

I can't remember but I think you push the center cut feature first, then set the spot of the blade, pick your shape, and push cut. Or you move the blade first. Can't remember.

I'll break out my machine after dinner and get back to you. I'll try to take some pics too.

Thanks! Although I really want to buy the Cricut, I can't justify it if it won't help me with this project. Another question - the paper I'm using for the programs is deeply embossed. Can it handle cutting that kind of paper?

Yes...just go get it!!!

This is what I think you can do:

Go to the Cricut.com website. Check out the Design Studio.

You can download a trial of this software, check out this link:

While I know the expression has a little bit more functionality than the the little bug, which is what I have, the Desgin Studio software will make this job a breeze. You can use the trial version of the software with the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge, which is what comes with the Expression. There is an oval on this cartridge.

With the Design studio, you can precisely determine where you want the oval to cut out, but also the dimensions on the width and the length.

Actually - just download the software before you even get the Expression - that way you'll know how it works before you even spend one little penny!

I did a card exchange on the Swap board about 2 months ago, and I needed to take a standard size of card stock (5.5 x 8.5) and make 3 holes that were all aligned, and evenly spaced. Once I figured out what I was doing, I was able to cut the cards with the Design Studio in no time.

And - don't be too intimidated by what the people do on the Cricut Board. They have really pushed what they do with the Design Studio to a new level. I on the other hand am working on the simple shapes like circles and squares.

Good Luck!

I was going to suggest DS as well. It would be perfect for your project!

Didn't even think about DSS. Mac girl here, and it's not compatible.

I didn't get a change to try out my big bug either. Trying to get this darn car engine in the Mini. I'll see what I can do today.

Thanks so much! This has really been helpful info. Besides this wedding program project, the real reason I want the Cricut is the 8 trips that we've taken to Disney since 2004 that I have yet to scrapbook! I can't wait to buy all of the Disney cartridges! Seems like e-bay has the best deals. Does anyone have a better place to shop?

I haven't been using my expressions very long, but isn't there a way to make multiples of everything you are doing? Would this allow you to change paper and make more without doing the calculations.
